How soon is too soon to move on to IVF? sorta long
We are about to do our second iui that is if my follies grow, there is one dominant one that is around 12.5. Last time I had 4 over 20 and DH had a wash count of 45 mil...still failed. We don't have coverage for IVF but we were thinking of apply for the nys grant. We were really hoping of having a baby by August of next year but that time frame will be shot if this iui doesn't work. I wanted to stay home for the first 6-8 months and my DH is going to be going to law school come 2011 so I will have to go back to work full time than. I'm getting very frustrated, I have this feeling that an iui won't work (I hate saying that because I sound so negative).
Do you think it is oka to go forward with IVF after only 2 failed attempts at an iui, are we rushing things? Is there some sort of time line out there for how many times you should do iui. Mr dr says there is a slight increase in a bfp with each iui do but its a small chance.

its really between you are your dr. I'm not sure what your IF issues are but my RE recomended we do 3-6 iui's before moving onto ivf. BTW, you had really good follies on your first cycle and your DH had really good numbers stay positive it will happen soon.

Re: How soon is too soon to move on to IVF? sorta long
I did one IUI and then moved on to IVF. My husband's numbers were not great though - 9mm post wash and so I just didn't think there was much hope with IUI. Your numbers all look good though so I think that you will have the standard 15-20% chance of IUI working each time.
Since you don't have coverage, I think that I would try IUI one more time before moving to IVF but if you aren't comfortable with that then you should absolutely move t IVF right away. I just couldn't keep trying with IUI. I knew it would be too disappointing for me and I really believe it would have never worked.
Be prepared to drop a lot of money though. We did the Integremed program where you pay up front for 3 IVF cycles and 3 FET cycles. That was $20,900, then I had an additional $3200 OOP at my Dr.s office and already $100 for meds and I just started on Friday. It's sick! We didn't qualify for any grants though. Hopefully you will get lucky and qualify.

It's really your decision. If my second IUI didn't work I was planning on moving to IVF. But my insurance covers IVF so the cost didn't factor into our decision. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It really depends on what kind of IF you are dealing with and what your doctor suggests. I did 5 IUI's before doing IVF and have a DD from that IVF. We had unexplained IF.

Here's my 2 cents. I think it depends on how old you are, if there are any evident problems and what kind of insurance you have.
I will tell you that my friend who is 39 is now 22 wks pg with twins from her 5th IUI. So, it does work. She didn't have IVF coverage (or IUI coverage for that matter). If I was her I'm not sure I would have done so many bf going to IVF, but then look where she is now.
It is a really hard decision. You just never know. But, I would at least give it 3 tries before you give IVF a thought.

Quick question - are you using clomid or injectibles? If you are not doing injectibles I would see if they will let you do that next time.

I did 4 cycles of IUI (the first one worked and I got pregnant, but then miscarried.) We are now doing our first round of IVF. You mentioned the grant, and I believe you need to have a certain # of failed IUI cycles before you are qualified. Ask your doc about this.
