Please recommend cooking books

If you had to recommend 2-3 books for everyday, quick, easy meals, which would you pick?

I need some inspiration.

Please tell me which book/author and title since some authors have more than 1 book.

TIA

Re: Please recommend cooking books

I honestly feel like I get so many more ideas from magazines than cookbooks.

Everyday Food IMO is a great magazine! They have tons of recipes in there... I always find at least 5 recipes that I want to try in each issue... and sometimes many more than that!

Cooking Light is another favorite of mine - I would say I usually find 7-10 recipes in each issue that I want to try.

Both of those have pretty simple recipes.

Everyday with Rachael Ray has a ton of good recipes also that are simple. I don't subscribe to this one, but I might start!

I have a ton of cookbooks but I find that I don't use them as often as I use my magazine recipes!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the DOwn Home with the Neely's book. Some of the recipes take time though. I also really like the Betty Crocker small books that are next to the register at the supermarket. They have great meals in there!

I love Rachael Ray 365, it's packed with recipes. Not well organized though.

I also like my Betty Crocker Bridal Edition.

I also get a lot of good recipes from Epicurious.com.

I get Real Simple and they have some great, easy recipes that I even sometimes adapt...you can also get emails sent to you from them for free with recipes, so check their website. I use a lot of Weight Watchers cookbooks, but my other favorite is one we got as a gift...Bon Appetit's Fast Easy Fresh...I also just use the internet a lot and keep a large file with recipes...

I completely and totally agree with Hayley on this one. I have a lot of cookbooks but I generally whip them out for special occassions or if I need to remember a technique. My everyday menu ideas are more often found in magazines and the these mentioned are my favorites!

The America's test Kitchen Family Cookbook is amazing! Over 1,200 recipes and so far I have yet to cook a bad one!

Re: Please recommend cooking books

I agree with Hayley and Jeannie as well. Magazines such as Rachel Ray have great seasonal recipes and ways to spruce up your normal dinners. However, if you are just starting to cook....hands down...get the Better Homes & Garden red checkered book. It has a lot of great basics (like roasting meat) that I still turn to time and time again.

One of my hobbies is to collect cookbooks. Not necessarily the ones you get at a bookstore, but ones I buy from local clubs, pick up at craft fairs and out of town spots. I find that most of the recipes are written by real people who use ingredients bought at Stop and Shop. It does take time to amass a repertoire of favorites but as you do you'll see your confidence as a cook soar.

Good luck and enjoy.

Re: Please recommend cooking books

I also agree with the PP.....I have TONS of cookbooks that I rarely use because I LOVE my magazines! This is what I suggest

Everyday Food
Cooking Light
Every Day with Rachael Ray
Taste of Home

If I had to pick just 1 or 2 cookbooks I would pick:

Taste of Home..it's HUGE and so worth it!
