Lamaze is purely optional. Your DH will be allowed into L&D regardless of whether or not you've taken any birthing classes.
I took it when I was pregnant my first time and I found it extremely educational. Moreso esp. for my husband.

You don't have to take Lamazee if you don't want to.Its a personal choice.

And you can tell your mom and her friends that this information is false. YOur husband is always allowed in the room with you.

I am almost 36 weeks and I am not taking a Lamaze course. My hospital does not require for me to take the class. Check with your doctor or hospital if it's required. A friend of mine delivered at Good Sam and she had to take the course, if she hadn't taken the course her husband would not be allowed in the delivery room.

It is everyones personal opinion.
I went a couple of weeks ago and learned something that I did not know and actually felt more comfortable about things that I had questions on.
It also helped that my class was in one day we finished early and then went for a tour of the hospital.

Re: im very confused about whether or not i should take

I think some hospitals have a policy that your husband cannot go into a c/s OR if you have not taken a birthing class. SO check with your hospital.
Why take Lamaze when you can take really great birthing classes like Bradley or Hypnobirthing? I think it is VERY important to know and understand what is happening to your body and your baby at each stage of labor. Knowledge is power. The Lamaze breathing does not help, but Bradley/Hypnobirthing has a totally different view on breathing and that type of breathing can help you in labor.
Also, you should understand the terms used and the options during labor. A class will go over those with you.
JMO, of course.

While a class isn't necessary, I think it is important to educate yourself on the whole labor and birthing process and the policies of the hospital you will be delivering at.

My thoughts exactly. I took a 5 week childcare/birthing/lamaze course and I can't tell you how extrememly happy I am that I took it. I feel so ready.

Also-- I was talking to my doctor about it and she told me that she can totally tell as soon as she walks into a delivery room if one of her patients has taken a class or not. She said that the person who has taken the class is alot calmer and less stressed since she knows what's going on...

Re: im very confused about whether or not i should take

I am taking it at Winthrop and it is $150. I think we are doing it more to educate my DH. He doesnt have much experience in the baby department.

Re: im very confused about whether or not i should take

we decided against it but did buy the dvd everyone told me about on here called "laugh and learn about childbirth"

we watched it and found is extremely informative and also kind of entertaining - doesnt bore you to tears.

I am 32.5 weeks and was worried that I was getting down to the wire so I ordewred it quickly and we watched it the other night, I highly reccommend it.

good luck!!
