Do you know what "bitey-face" is? Does it scare you?
Ever since I joined a Lab related message board, I've learned new terms. Like bitey-face.
This is Brinkley's buddy Ryder who just moved out of state. They play pretty rough but we've never had an injury. It looks scary, right? Add the sound effects, and it can be unnerving at first. Do your dogs do this when they get together with other dogs?
It's the kind of thing that I've had to accept and relax about. The first time it happened, I thought one of them was really going to get hurt. But this is just how they play together. He doesn't do it with other dogs. Just Ryder.
They never actually chomp down on each other and bite. If anything, they'll hold the scruff around each other's necks in what's called a "soft mouth".
A year later, now I just laugh about it and snap pictures.

Doesn't scare me at all. My 11lb Cairn does this to my sister's 70lb Rottie and my neighbor's 30lb Puggle. We think she has a bit of a Napolean complex LOL
They LOVE each other!!
ETA: I didn't know it had a name. I thought my dog was just being an a-hole LOL

OMG they look so fierce and vicious in those first pics and then in the last one they look so sweet and innocent... almost like they are saying- "see- we are really just big mushy loves!"
I don't have dogs but my kitties play like that... lots of teeth baring and play biting, strange scary noises, holding each other around the neck in choke holds. They don't look as fierce as that though!

Brinkley can be a little bit of a snot. He likes to steal other dog's toys and then make them chase him for it.
Glad to know other dogs and cats get in the game.

That's a whole lot of teeth! I'd be nervous too, I've never been around more than one dog at a time.
I the last picture of them!

Yes. Murray does this when he plays and it sounds like he is going to attack you, but he doesnt, hes totally just playing.
But he did this once when my grandma was over and she freaked. I had to explain over and over that he was just playing. Trust me, I know what Murray sounds like when he really is on the attack

OMG they are so cute!!!
And yes my pups do this. I have a 37;b lab mix and a 12lb munchkin and they go at it like no other. The sounds and all the teeth is scary but they are only playing and I rarely hear a yelp.
I just fear for my fingers or toeas cause their playing sometimes happens practically on my lap!!
The best is mute fighting, the look just like your pups do but with no sound coming out of them - hilarious!

Ahh the dreaded bite face game...
Most of the dogs I have known (friends/family) have enjoyed this game. It can be intimidating to watch but it really is all in good fun. Retrievers are all very "mouthy" dogs so they really get into it from what I have observed!
We have learned that a powerful spray bottle makes for a great referee.

My two shih tzu's who are each 11 pounds do this type of thing. They never hurt eachother though thank god. It's all play.

My dog does this when playing with DH, my brother, my dad and my BIL.
Its funny cause he won't do it with me or my mom or my sister only certain males.
