I'm torn need opinions -anyone done acupuncture?
So as i've mentioned, i started acupuncture last week. If my IUI this week fails, my original plan was to go straight to IVF.
The doctor said that it could take a few months for the acupuncture to 'work' and he recommends that I wait a cycle before trying. I was finally getting myself psyched up to start but now i'm not too sure. From what i've seen online, acupuncture can really make a difference and the success rate seems to be high but i don't know if i really want to wait.
I know that i should be positive either way since who knows, maybe this IUI will work! I just figured i'd see if anyone else has opinions. I'm not sure if anyone has done acupuncture and been successful.

I did it and was successful on my 1st IVF. There are scientific studies that show improved implantation rates with IVF and acu.
This is going to sound totally hokey but one day into my cycle but before transfer I went and she hit some point where I felt this rush of energy go through my body and my stomach got all warm. I asked her about it and she said it was my chi. It was pretty powerful and SOMETHING had to be going on you know? I also did a lot of mind body things during my cycles. I listened to guided imagery just for IVF, thought positive etc.

I did acupuncture for my 1st IVF and am pregnant. I started the week I started stimming and went twice a week and than 2 x's on the day of transfer. I'm still going 2x's a week- I finish up next week when I'm 13 weeks from transfer.
If you have egg quality issues, it is suggested to start acupuncture 2 months before IVF because it takes some time for the acupuncture to improve your egg quality. However, if your young and have no reason to believe you have egg quality issues, the acupuncture will help to increase blood flow to the uterus and give your embies a greater chance of implanting and staying implanted. The studies done are mostly on having acupuncture the day of the transfer, and not necessarily earlier. Ask your doc if he thinks you have egg quality issues, if not, you should be able to do the IVF cycle right away with the acupuncture. Plus, you've already been going for a cycle before- so that will definitely help.

I have PCOS so i don't think its a egg quality issue but you never know. I've seen studies that have said acupuncture can help women with PCOS ovulate.
I've only had two sessions so far and was planning on continuing. It's expensive but i figure it can't hurt. I know he said it could help to come the day before my IUI. I made an apt on Tues either way and its perfect since it's looking like the IUI will be on Wed.
I was thinking about asking the RE what he thought when i see him.

I am doing it. I figure - why not??? Although I did consider stopping because with all of these appts, another appt per week is getting annoying. we are also having more male factor issues but I'm 34 so I figure at this age I am probably part of the problem as well!

I've done acupuncture with my IVFs (first one BFN, second one BFP) but I changed places for my second one. The first place was recommended by my clinic at the time, but she was not a fertility specialist. This time I'm working with a group that focuses primarily on fertility issues and found that the experience has been much better all around.

I did it with my 2nd IVF cycle. I highly recommend acupuncture as I responded so much better my 2nd cycle and my protocol was the same except I added the acupuncture.

Same here (we went to the same person). He also had me take CoQ-10 vitamins and add ground flax seed to my diet (I added to oatmeal). My 2nd IVFcycle worked.

Wow I didn't realize that so many women on here have had acupuncture 
I'm going to talk to the dr tomorrow to get his opinion but maybe we will try TI next month instead of going straight to IVF. After all what's another month if it will increase our odds.

No problem! Where do you live? I can recommend someone out east who specializes and I know my RE has people also.

I did and had a successful first round of IVF - there is a study, published in a reputable british journal, that shows a direct correlation between acupuncture and success rates. I had my acupuncturist come to the clinic and he gave me a session immediately before and immediately after the transfer

It didn't work for me.
I did it for 2 of my IVFs, one was canceled due to poor response and the next one BFN. Finally got my BFP but without doing acupuncture.
