Starving DOG!!! updated w/picture
Lola had a very bad ear infection recently.. Filled with yeast, I am ashamed that iteven got this bad before I actually realized it was there.
So anyway, as soon as I realized this was going on I rushed her to the vet.. He gave me 2 types of pills, an ear drop and ear cleaner..
Well ever sice I stoped the meds ( a week now) She has been starving.. Hungry ALL the time.. I mean in a very obssesive way.. She sits in fron of the cabinet I keep her food and snaks in and just stares at it.. For a very very long time,, Just sits there facing it and staring.. She also expects a treat every time she goes out and does her business?? I never made that a habit she would be getting treats all day then,, So I took her to get groomed and my groomer yellled at me and said she it so over weight I was so upset.. That is very bad for a little dog! Or ANY dog. I dont know what do about her so hungry all the time.. I try to distraCT HER play wwith her.. I give her carrots and cherios as a treat.. I only give her 2 baby carrots and a small amount of cherios.. How many carrots could I give her.. What do you guys do with your hungry dogs?? please help- me
LOOK HOW PATHETIC!!!!!!!!

Re: Starving DOG!!!
Not to insult your groomer, but they aren't a veterinarian so I wouldn't take their opinion as gospel. What did your vet say about her weight when you brought her in for the ear infection? They weigh her every time she goes in, right? I think if she was dangerously overweight, your vet would have said something to you.
That said, if you can't feel her ribs when you apply pressure and run your hands down her sides, she could probably stand to lose a couple of pounds.
First, I tried out a bunch of different fruits and veggies on Brinkley for his weight loss. I looked into them beforehand to make sure they weren't poisonous or harmful to him. I tried green beans, carrots, snow peas, snap peas, watermelon, apple and banana. His favorites are apples and bananas.
You and I know that you're not starving your dog. They will eat and eat and eat themselves sick if given the chance, so it's up to us to determine what's appropriate. If you give her a lot of pre-packaged treats, try the fruits and veggies instead, even ice cubes too. She still feels like it's special, but you're not adding to a weight problem.
Also, Brinkley had a yeast infection 2 weeks ago and we had to treat him the same way with the daily cleanings and daily medicine. His ear continued improving even after the medicine was done, and he's great now. We even add a tablespoon of yogurt to his food now as a preventative and to give him better digestion. I've noticed no difference in his behavior towards food.
Good luck, and don't worry, you're not neglecting your little girl.

Re: Starving DOG!!!
Thank you for responding.. I know I am not starving her but she is always hungry which is not like her.. I used to force her to eat.. Now she gobbles everything and is looking for more.. I think her appetitie has increased dramatically.. Now I just looked at her and she has red circles all over her belly.. I called the the groomer (who is a friend also) she said to bring her in.. Now she had a reaction to the shampoo they used and she is soaking her in some sort of treatment. I called the vet and he said it was fine and I can give her the prednisone I gave her for the ear infection.. Its for the skin.. He said to give it to her 2x a day until its gone.. So now I see why her appitite got crazy.. Its the prednisone.. I was starving on it when i was on it myself.. My poor little baby. She hates the groomers and now she is back there
Fur babies its always something!! Look how bad this is!!!! she has freckles too so the brown circles are her gorgeous freckles on her beautiful belly..

Re: Starving DOG!!!
My neighbor just shared an awesome treat that is very small and very cheap. Maybe it will work for you. She basically cut up a hot dog into tiny little thin discs and broiled them until they became firm. Her dog LOVES them. She only gives one at a time so it is a treat, but not a huge quantity of it at one time.

Re: Starving DOG!!!
i dont have any suggestions for the constant hunger issue, but for the weight, my vet had suggested feeding string beans along with her reduced portion of dog food.
She absolutely LOVES them!!! I only buy the "no salt" cans of the cut green beans or the french cut.. and I buy them when they go on sale 5 cans for $3. I give her 1/4 or 1/3 can on top of her food. She lost the weight she needed to, wasn't missing the dog food I had reduced. And I continue to give it to her anyway because she gets so excited when she sees the can.
You can also use the cut green beans as treats, i used them to train her because she wouldn't do anything for regular treats.

Re: Starving DOG!!!
You can freeze the green beans too. I don't know if Lola is like Brinkley but he loves anything that's cold and crunchy.
I didn't even catch in your first post that you said she was on pills too! I'm glad you have an explanation for the behavior. I hope her hives get better soon too! Is she itchy? Poor Lola and Diana.

Re: Starving DOG!!! updated w/picture
I would feed her, esp if it's from the prednisone. That can make ANYONE very hungry!!! Call your vet to see if she can have whatever she wants until the meds are out of her system. Poor baby!!! I feel so bad for her and that rash!!

I was going to say, the hunger is probably from Prednisone and probably temporary.

D, I was thinking about this more!! Feed that girl if she is hungry. But make sure she doesn't eat too much that she will get sick.
