New to this board ...

(I am a regular poster who prefers to remain anonymous)

Well, I just made an appt with an RE after 6 mos of TTC #2 with loads of testing from my OB/Gyn. I have spotting issues (7-10 days prior to AF every month) but all my tests have come back perfectly. We recently learned that DH has some morphology issues. So, today, my OB referred me to an RE, with mention of doing IUI.

I am not really sure how to digest all of this. We conceived DC #1 on our 4th month trying (3 years ago) so there were no issues then.

I am sure I will have a million questions, but my first simple one is, should DH come w/ me to my first RE appt?

Thanks so much! I am so glad this board is here! Chat Icon

It's really your preference. I went alone, but I am/was very relaxed about the whole process. I knew I would be able to ask questions and remember everything without DH's help.

DH came to my first appt. at the first RE we met with. Neither of us liked him so I researched some more and went to LI IVF. I went to that first one alone. It's all up to you.Chat Icon

Re: New to this board ...

DH didn't come with me to my first appointment but like an above poster said - I was pretty relaxed about the whole thing. But if you believe it is a morphology issue maybe I would bring him.

Good Luck!

DH came with me to the first appointment. If he has morphology issues they will probably refer him to a urologist. I know it seems like a lot but the good news is you've gotten pregnant before and you will surely get pregnant again! Best of luck to you and welcome Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH came with me for the first appointment as well. He had a lot of questions for the doctor - as did I.

I wish you lots of luck!

I went to the first appointment alone just because I knew there would be a lot more appointments in the future that DH would have to take off from work.

DH is going to come to the appt. I figure since this is OUR issue, he should be just as involved as I am (to the extent possible).

Does anyone here use Dr. Chu at NSUH? That's who I'm going to see.

Re: New to this board ...

DH came with me too. I wanted him to and I think he wanted to be there. My RE asked his some questions (I could have answered them, but it was nice to have DH there to ans. for himself).

I had a similar spotting issue. I typically spot 7-10 days before AF. Did you get an HSG done? I found out that I had polyps in my fallopian tubes and my RE thought they were causing the IF and also the spotting (they were blocking my tubes). I had them removed this month and didn't have any spotting this time around....first time in prob. 2 years!

Anyway, I just wanted to throw that out there. Good luck with your journey...I hope it is a short one!

I also go to NSUH, however I see another Dr. My experience w/ Dr Chu was IUI on day #2 and my follow up appt was w/ her also. She is very knowledgable and explains everything, although both visits she was very late. She did try to "sell" me IVF, I didn't like that, it was first round of IUI w/ injectable medicine.
Good luck, you'll like NSUH.

DH didnt come with me to my first appt. I asked them and they said it wasnt necessary.
He gets freaked out very easily though so i didnt want him to hear anything that might make him worry/stress ...

Re: New to this board ...

Hi there - I am pretty much in the same boat as you. We conceived our son on month #2 or 3 so I was surprised when after 6 months of TTC nothing was happing. We started doing all of the tests, I also have spotting issues typically right before I ovulate but everything with me is fine. Turns out that my husband has morphology issues as well. To be honest I feel like these are issues that can develop or get worse over time and that's probably why neither of us had much trouble conceiving the first time around.

We tried IUI and the post wash count was very low, so we are moving straight to IVF. I just don't want to waste any more time with IUIs. I have done a lot of research and IUIs typically don't work with morphology issues - not to get you down. We have been told though that with my husband's numbers we would most likely get pregnant eventually on our own, but because our chances are so much lower it would probably take time. He had around 10% normal morph.

FM if you would like to chat. I would definitely bring your husband to the RE. It's a lot of information to absorb so the more ears listening the better, if you ask me. What RE are you seeing?

ETA - just saw you are seeing Dr. Chu. We were with Rosenfeld but we are moving to Dr. Chu for IVF. We are meeting her tomorrow.
