Please help with my hound

I have an adorable bassett hound who i love dearly but yesterday I was ready to pull my hair out. I got home from work and let him out in the yard to do his 'business'. After I let him back in I smelled something really bad. Apparently he was rubbing his scent into another animals poop/and or pee. We have a few stray cats around and I think the old lady next door feeds them so they tend to wander into my backyard. We also have deer in the area so I have so idea what kind of animal it was. I freaked out b/c I'm pregnant and I know that I cant be anywhere near cat poop. I know that its animal instincts but is there anything I can do to stop him from doing this again?

Try taking him for walks instead of letting him loose in the backyard.

I agree, I wouldn't leave him unattended when he does his business.

ITA and I would be very careful since you are pg. Did you have someone else clean him, give him a good bath, etc? Always make sure to wash your hands after petting him, I made sure when pg just in case. Heck I still do it now with the baby around.
