Did you have or Are you Planning?
to have an amniocentesis. I'm not at that stage yet but my husband and I have decided that I probably won't have this test. I was wondering how many actually have done it or are thinking of doing so when it's time. I've read the risks and also about the false positives.... Just wanted to see what's the consensus out there.....

I did not have it, however, it is not something they send you for unless your AFP results come back positive for something.

Re: Did you have or Are you Planning?
We decided not to. All of my other tests came back fine. Plus, we personally know four couples who went through hell when the amnio gave them a false positive. Considering the risks to the baby and all the false positives that can happen, we decided against it.

Re: Did you have or Are you Planning?
My dr never even suggested it, and we didn't feel we had any need for one.

Re: Did you have or Are you Planning?
I am over 35, but I'm very reluctant to have amnio done - and luckily I have an OB who is not 'pushy' about these sorts of test just due to the fact I am older -
I will be going for my AFP test in a few weeks, and then my LEVEL II shortly after - based on those results, I will take things from there (even though I know the AFP has a high incidence of false positives as well, I take these screenings and weigh my options accordingly..)
