Crockpot help...
What am I doing wrong?
I can cook...really I can...
Yet I cant make anything in a crockpot!!! I follow the recipe to the "T"...I usually wind up burning it or it's so dried out you dont want to eat it. (If it says "cook on low setting for 8-10 hours it's burned, yet there is still liquid, before 8 hours)
My mother told me that it's b/c it's such a big crockpot that the recipes are for smaller crockpots...could that be it?
If so how do I adjust the recipe?
TIA

It's really weird...
Could the crockpot itself maybe be too hot?

Re: Crockpot help...
Trial and error.
My oven in the house is WAY different than it was in my apartment. I overcooked more than a few things before I finally went and got a friggin' new meat thermometer!
If a recipe calls for 8 hours on high.. and your experience is that your pot will overcook it... try 8 hours on low. Or 5 hours on high. You'll find the groove that suits your equipment!

Re: Crockpot help...
My crockpot cooks a little faster. I usually have to adjust the time, like if it says cook for 8 hours, I know it will be done in 6.

Re: Crockpot help...
I have a large crockpot and I use recipes, but I just keep checking on it. like I don't think I've ever really cooked anythign for 8 hours on high. It's more like 5 or 6 on high or 8 on low.

OK...silly question...Basically if I were cooking stew on the stove I know when it's done pretty much by looking at it...Will I know that with a crockpot?
Right now Im doing chicken cutlets with diced tomato, garlic, and white wine...wish me luck...

My crockpot is big too but I don't seem to have a problem. I would say try shorting the time like a PP said.
That chicken recipe sounds good...would you mind sharing it?
