can I eat this veggie?
I read in the book "What to Expect when Expecting" that you can't eat alfalfa spouts. Does this include brussel sprouts?

I remember reading this, not sure why, but I believe brussel sprouts are fine

Re: can I eat this veggie?
really? I eat them all the time, not PG yet but this would be good to know. DID it say why?
ETA- I found this online..I NEVER knew this.
In September of 1988, the Food and Drug Administration warned that pregnant women, along with children and the elderly, should refrain from eating alfalfa sprouts. Sprouts are seedlings from a variety of vegetables and are commonly added to sandwiches and salads. Until growers can find a way to prevent deadly bacteria such as E. Coli from contaminating sprouts, this warning will stay in effect.
Alfalfa and Other Raw Sprouts The way in which most sprouts are grown is a great breeding ground for bacteria. Healthy adults might be able to resist the bacteria, but you don't want to take a chance with your baby. Even if you grow your own, avoid alfalfa sprouts since they contain a natural toxin.

I never knew this either! I haven't had them while PG, but I used to get them on my sandwiches!

ME TOO! I eat them on my sandwiches all the time. And I'm sure when PG I would have been scarfing them down

Caroline, you can eat Brussel Spouts. They are a very good sourch of Folic Acid.
