Cost of a fence, the cost of painters (we just do it ourselves because of the outrageous labor charge), how much plants cost, and the price of truly custom drapes (hence why pre-made are just fine!)
Yes, we spent a lot of money on plants, it adds up!
My mom's making drapes for us- I could never afford what I want. Luckily she's a great seamstress and knows how to find deals on fabric.

Re: What was the one expense...
landscaping and that includes the pool.
DH went crazy buying every single landscaping tool, I wonder if it would have been cost effective to hire landscapers.

Re: What was the one expense...
The obscene annual raise in property taxes. Ours have gone up about $500 each year for the past 4 years since we bought the house.

Paint... I mean it seems so simple to buy primer and paint but then adding in all the extra supplies. I knew the oil and other bills were going to be alot...

The cost to replace appliances that break. Just had to pay $500 for a new dishwasher.

Re: What was the one expense...
The cost and difficulty installing a new bulkhead. It's probably going to run around $30,000; and this whole permit process has been going on for at least 6 months (my neighbor's permit process is at 11 months!)
