cats and dogs...
OK. I have an almost 5 year old Pom. She is a sweetie and thinks she is a person. She is by my side always...well I have bene hearing so much about kittens that need homes this time of year since the strays had their babies..it breaks my heart. I have never had a cat...don't know much about cats but think I want a cat... Has anyone introduced a kitten to the home with a dog? How'd it go? I would do it in a second if I didn' think it would break her heart...but then again I love those pictures of a dog and cat being friends. what do you thnk?

Re: cats and dogs...
I think a lot is going to depend on the temperment of both the dog and the cat. If your dog is mellow, good with guests coming over, calm, etc- it might work. I'm not saying it won't take some time and adjustment, etc- but it can definitely work. But if your dog is nervous, territorial, skittish, etc- it might be harder.
And then there is the cat- some cats are calm as can be and great with other animals- others - like my last kitty- would probably have a nervous break down if brought around a dog. The cat is going to be the wild card here too- because you know your pup- but you don't know the personality of the new kitten until you get it home. Of course- there are older cats at the shelters/etc who have been in homes with dogs- so they can tell you right off the bat- this cat is good with other animals/dogs etc....
A lot to consider but I do think you can make it work with time and patience and a little research.
(And by the way- I was in Petco the other day and they had TONS of ADORABLE kittens and cats on display from the Heart and Soul Animal rescue that displays their cats there! I wanted to take them all home! )

It is certainly difficult. My dog is good around people and not a skidish dog. Likes other dogs just doesn't like to be dive bombed by them..lol...as for the cat I was hoping a baby kitten would just grow up knowing the dog?? I could be kidding myself though. As forthe older cats you are right...but I really LOVE kittens. who knows..lol...so far my husband has sad no
