Vent about a friend!
I have a close friend who has a son that is Jenna's age and we will arrange playdates weekly at someone's home. On several occasions she has brought her son while he is sick but does't say anything beforehand. Like one time he was running a high fever, didn't say anyhting till we all got to the park and he was cranky and turns out he had roseola!! Now yesterday, we had a playdate and she came and he was having explosive diarrhea-at least 3 times in an hour and she calls her ped at our friends house to make an appt. Now our other friend has a toddler and is pregnant too! Turns out they think he has rotovirus. Great-just what I want to worry about now. I packed up and left yesterday. I mean, she's one of my best friends but this is getting ridiculous! Sorry for the long vent but do I have right to be fuming?!?!?!

I have a friend like that. It's like they just don't get it. She will be going on about how her daughter has been vomiting for 2 days & then asks me if I want to come over.
If it was one of my best friends I would say to her. Hows your child been feeling?

I would be so ******! Jack just got over that horrible vomitting and diahrrea virus that lasted 10 days and I would never have exposed him to anyone! In fact, we stayed away from our normal playdates this week just to make sure he is totally well.
I would definately say something to her, or just start holding playgorups without her...then maybe she will get a clue.

Absolutely you have a right to be angry.
I think you'd be doing a great disservice to her as a friend if you didn't let her know that it's not acceptable (don't use those words). Especially if she's a good friend that you don't want to exclude.
Next time she calls for a date, say "I would love to get together with you. I need to tell you that the last 2 times we got together your son was sick. It would be different if it was just a cold but the last few times it was a fever & then diarrhea. I'm sure you can understand that no one wants their child or, god forbid (Pregnant Friend)'s name to get sick. It's probably better for him to be fully recovered too. I just want to make sure he's feeling up to par."

That really stinks that your friend would do that to you. She isn't being very fair to everyone else. The next time you have a playdate scheduled, I would come right out and ask her if her kids are feeling okay before getting together. I know its hard to do expecially since she is your friend and you don't want to start anything. But for the health of Jenna, I would defiantly say something to her.

Re: Vent about a friend!
Thanks for the replies but the bad thing is she will say he is fine and then he "all of a sudden gets sick" at a playdate, etc...Even if Jenna has a sniffle I keep her away from other kids so as not to be rude.

I would say something, when it comes to your kids' health all bets ar off with keeping other people's feelings in mind. Goo d luck and hopefully no one else gets sick!

Wow, I'm amazed she wouldn't say anything to you. I'm also amazed that she'd bring him out at all if he's sick.

Re: Vent about a friend!
This is crazy!! Who takes a child with a fever outside to go to the park She sounds like she is desperate to get out of the house, no matter what the cost to her child. I would talk to her. If you are close you can tell her that you are a bit worried about her taking her son to playdates while sick so often. She needs to consider everyone else, not just her need for time out of the house.

Thats exactly what it is Michele-she always says how desperate she is to get out of the house for playdates since she lives in the Hamptons and always feel so secluded out there.

That's so wrong, and truly inconsiderate. I can't tell you how many times I have had to cancel a playdate because I was either sick, or Alex wasn't 100%.
