Bring home alcohol on a cruise

My parents want me to bring home some alcohol on our cruise in January. Is there a policy on the airlines with this?

Re: Bring home alcohol on a cruise

I don't know about the policy on the plane, but there is DEFINITELY a policy on the cruise ship. They do random bag inspections and will give you a hard time. You are definitely not allowd to bring your own alcohol.

That being said, we did get away with it on one cruise we went on...they obviously don't inspect all the bags, but just know you're not supposed to!

I think you are only allowed a specific amount (I don't know how much). I know that many cruise lines will also hold whatever alcohol you buy (offshore, or on the boat) until disembarkment.

I was told it was a liquid and had to be checked even though it was in sealed boxes.

Re: Bring home alcohol on a cruise

I recently bought a bunch of booze in Jamaica and flew back with it as a carry on. I don't know if it makes a difference that I purchased it at the airport after having passed through security. I "think" the rule is 3 bottles per person- or atleast I'm pretty sure that's what it used to be.

Re: Bring home alcohol on a cruise

If you buy alcohol on an island when you get back to the boat they check it for you. Once the cruise is over they give it back.

ETA: Not sure about the plane ride.

V true.

There is a certain allowance for alcohol on the cruise ships. I believe each ship is different. I *think* it may have been 2 bottles (a certain liter amount) per person....my dad split it all up between us. The ship will hold your alcohol until you disembark. It will be at your door when you're getting ready to leave.

As for the plane...I have no clue

There is a certain allowance of bottles on the cruise. They also will take it from you after purchased until you dock again. Ive never heard of the airlines letting you take it on the planeChat Icon It wouldnt make sense since you cant bring more then 4oz of liquid. I actually bought a new piece of luggage just for the bottles. In the end FOR US it wasnt worth the savings bc we had to carry all this cr@p off, go through customs, and then buy a new small piece of luggage. Not to say the deals werent fantatstic before we did everything else. Where are u going? We did st thomas, st maarten and bahamas. We are now doing Bermuda.

You can't bring the liquor through security because of the restrictions place on liquids.

I believe you have to ship or check the alcohol since there is the 3 oz rule. The only way to bring alcohol onto the plane is to buy it after you go thru security at the duty free shops.

Re: Bring home alcohol on a cruise

When you buy it on the cruise ship or on an island the ship will hold it for you and bring it to your room the last night.

We had no problems with the airlines when we packed it in our checked bags.
