HSG question
Does anyone know of a doctor or practice that is willing to do an HSG under IV sedation? TIA

Re: HSG question
No...
But the procedure itself absolutely does not hurt. It's just a speculum exam....and just ike during an IUI or PAP smear, you will feel a bit of pressure.
An IV would def. hurt much more.
The pain everyone talks about comes in cramping form afterwards....and lasts about 1 hr. Most places just recommend loading yourself up on ibuprofen.
If you are talking about anxiety...it's another issue...I would go with what you normally go with for a pap smear.

Re: HSG question
I am a big wimp but wouldn't have done it sedated. The procedure is too short and it's not THAT horrible. Just take Tylenol or whatever your dr recommends beforehand (just don't buy the Children's Motrin like I did ). I think the anxiety over what it was going to be like was worse than the actual pain. I'm not saying it was "fun" but I felt better a few hours later.

Re: HSG question
IV sedation is totally unnecessary for HSG. It is a super fast test and does not hurt. If you are worried about pain, ask your doctor about taking an oral medication before the test. I took a few Advil before and was fine.

Re: HSG question
I just had my HSG last Monday and would agree with the PPs that IV sedation is unnecessary. I was VERY nervous about the test so I took 1/2 a Xanax beforehand and I was fine. Was it the most pleasant thing I've been through? Definitely not. But I was expecting much much worse.

Re: HSG question
I don't think you can be sedated because you have to move in certain positions and hold your breath for a few seconds (at least that's what the doctor doing my test had me do). You wouldn't be able to do that if you were sedated.
It's not bad at all. I just took 3 Motrin one hr. before and I was fine.
Good Luck!
