Those who grill fish on the BBQ
...can I ask what kind of fish you love to grill? How do you prepare it? How long do you grill it for?
I've never really done it, but I want to try...
Any favorites or fabulous recipes would be appreciated!!

Re: Those who grill fish on the BBQ
You can grill almost any kind of fish on the BBQ ...
I usually go citrus on the fish. ie: lemon , lime etc with herbs maybe some garlic.
salmon I usually wrap in tin foil, & spead mayo on it & grill, ( yes mayo ) ,, so so good.
shrimp , ill use very terakyi ( sp) marinate it in that for a while & then skewer it.
crabs, ill do white wine, lemon & lime juice , garlic, oregano & parsley.
Lobster I keep in the shell (tail) & then grill, Thats so so good..

Re: Those who grill fish on the BBQ
We just grilled salmon fillets last night and it was delicious. This time around we did it without foil and just did it skin side down on the grill. We were going to use foil if the skin started sticking to the grates, but we didn't have to (both sides of the salmon were brushed with olive oil). We put a mustard, mayo, and brown sugar glaze on top using a recipe from Steven Raichlen's "How to Grill" book. DH loves his recipes. Cooking time on the grill was maybe 10-15 minutes.

If you wrap it in foil, how long do you keep it on the grill? Let's say for a tilapia type fish?

Re: Those who grill fish on the BBQ
For a tilapia type fish, I would do about 3-4 minutes a side depending on the thickness in the middle. I am also not sure of your bbq hotspots.
TBH, I have never cooked tilapia, as they don't have it here. I am not sure exactly what it is. I usually will cook salmon, snapper or barramundi.
ETA: that's for fillets, whole fish would be 8 minutes the first side, 7 the second side.

Re: Those who grill fish on the BBQ
Two recipes I use to marinate fish:
Soy Sauce, Garlic, Ginger, Scallions, and Olive Oil (got this from another LIFer)
I think I do like 1/2 cup of each liquid and add what I like of the rest. ----------------------------
For Salmon I use this, it's a Gordon Ramsey recipe:
1 inch fresh ginger grated 6 Tbsp honey 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice 4 Tbsp light soy sauce 2 tsp Dijon mustard
This is a good amount for 2 big fillets.
Whisk ingredients together and place with salmon in bowl. Let marinate for 30-40 minutes in fridge.
Place each piece of salmon in foil and pour marinade over it and wrap up.
You can cook on the BBQ or in the oven. Fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork. I can't give an exact time because it depends on your oven / BBQ.
