Looking for advice (long)

In December I saw a regular endocrinologist. Blood work was done and I was diagnosed with PCOS without insulin resistance. I was put on Metformin, hoping that it would bring down my testosterone levels. According to my blood work it seemed to be working. When I went to my yearly exam at my ob/gyn I told him about the endocrinologist and he seemed kind of annoyed, like I was going behind his back to try to get pregnant without him knowing. He didn’t say that, I just had that feeling with the questions he was asking.

Now my prescription is almost up, I was supposed to have a 6 month follow up exam with the endocrinologist and I cancelled it because I thought that my regular doctor was taking care of the situation now. Plus, I didn’t like the endocrinologist; he made me feel very uncomfortable with PCOS. In fact I have questioned the diagnosis since it was given. I want them to look more into Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia but I haven’t found a doctor that I have felt comfortable enough to ask about it. I get in the office and I freeze.

What do you ladies think? Should I find an RE? I have been TTC for a year and obviously I have medical issues. Can I go to a RE without telling my ob/gyn first? I am on my 3rd month of clomid, prescribed by my ob/gyn and he doesn't think that the added stress of the monitoring helps the TTC process...

Sorry I am rambling. I am just lost and don’t know where to turn.

If you stayed with me this long I appreciate it!!

Sorry you are going through all of this- it can be so frustrating to navigate the fertility waters. Personally, I would see an RE. You do not need to inform your OBGYN of this, but you could always call and ask for a reference. In all honesty, if you been TTC for over a year, I'm surprised they haven't encouraged you to see an RE. Good luck!

I also think you should go to a RE. Clomid is a fertility med, and while many OB's prescribe it, you should be monitored while on it. It concerns me with the frequency with which this medication is dispensed. And don't worry about offending your doctor by seeking out a RE or other specialists, remember, docs work for us...not the other way around!

I personally would go to an RE. RE's specialize in getting people prego---many of whom have medical issues. JMO! U should obviously do whatever u feel comfortable with.

Good luck!!!

Before I even finished reading your post I was thinking you need a RE. Best of luck!

Regardless of which doctor you see, you need to feel confident in your ability to ask questions and share your ideas, thoughts and concerns with your doctor. Otherwise, you could find yourself just going along a path you may not agree with.

Re: Looking for advice (long)

Thank you ladies. I knew what I had to do, I just needed to make the leap.

I have an appointment with an RE on Thursday. I am very excited.

I wish I still lived on Long Island, I wish I could meet this Jeff that everyone speaks so highly of!!
