Need some reassurance - no idea what to expect
OK so obviously this is my first post here. I was an active member on LIW and after lurking on here i finally created an account.
I'm scared out of my mind because i don't know what to expect and was hoping for some advice and support so i figured i'd turn to you all.
I am 33 and was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago and always told I would need help to conceive (even prior to diagnosis). I was on and off metformin. The first time it helped and i was regulated. I went off because i decided to go back on BCP (before i was married) now in the last 2 years i haven't been so lucky.
My first apt/consultation at RSNY in Stonybrook with Dr Cain was a few weeks ago. We both really liked her and now we are going back tomorrow following up on our test results. I'm petrified after reading some of what is on here.
Any clues on what to expect? Is there a 'list' of questions that i should be asking? I have a few but by no means am prepared.

Sorry to hear about what is going on. I am not going to lie...it sucks. But it is totally doable as long as you keep things in perspective.
I would just make sure that you have very extensive testing (blood clotting, genetics, immune issues, DNA fragmentation, etc.) before you start anything.

Yeah they've already done all the testing. Tomorrow is to review the results and i guess see where to go from there.
The dr mentioned some possibilities but i don't even know where to start, which method is preferred or more likely to succeed (though i know everyone is different).
There is a choice of medication with or w/out IUI. We can try naturally with the meds or go straight to IUI. Not sure of other peoples experiences.
It's funny because i felt so 'alone' before but i really don't anymore after reading some of what people had to say on here.

Re: Need some reassurance - no idea what to expect
I have pcos too and went to RSofNY. I was successful with them however the testing they do on u initially is not the extensive testing of blood clotting issues, immune issues etc. They only do blood clotting issues genetic issues (not in depth as other drs do) etc after u have 2 or more miscarriages. I had a loss prior to seeing them and continued with treatment (clomid and iuis) got pregnant again only to mc again. After that they decided to test me for issues which i came back positive for blood clotting issues. It all could have been avoided if they tested me initally. There are many people here who have gone to RS and other offices (LI IVF) etc. that were not tested for immune issues or extensive blood clotting factors initally or thoroughly only to go see another dr does the extensive and thorough testing right away
I dont want to discourage u about the office, but that is something u should ask them. Be your own patient advocate - demand certian testing - especially blood clotting issues, genetic issues for both yourself and ur husband etc...
THere are many women who have been successful with RSofNY ( i saw dr stelling and dr cain) and while I loved them and they helped me succeed in becoming pregnant, I think they should be much more aggessive with initial testings.
Good Luck - this is a great site where u can get lots of info and support!

Re: Need some reassurance - no idea what to expect
What you are saying definetely makes sense and i know its one of the things on my list. My Mother has something she specifically wants me tested for because she is positive (i'm not sure if it would be part of the ashkenazi panel they ran)...plus i know my MIL and SIL have some sort of clotting disorder as well. I'm pretty sure MIL told me that DH was tested and negative.... I'm not sure if the two disorders are related or not but its something i need to find out about.
They actually gave me the number of what i guess is the place the place to start.
With the amount of blood they took I am definetely curious as to all the tests. They thankfully didn't take as much from DH (they had a terribly hard time as he has small veins).
