Re: Keeping Birds Away from Pool
The birds by my house are out of control We have spent so much money trying to get rid of the birds. They keep building nests, and we knock it down, and they come right back.
I wish i had an answer, we have tried everything, we just ordered 25 feet of bird spikes, the birds still built a nest and just went around the spikes so now we have to put even more.
We spent 250 on a bird sonar machine, but it does not work that well.
Someone 2 doors down, has a feeder and they are constantly feeding the birds, so there is a HUGE infestation of birds, and they eat there and live at my house, i have a pool as well, and patio and its just so upsetting that my neighbors have to feed these birds.
I have heard its not neccessary to feed birds in the spring/summer because there is plenty of food, and its ruining our outdoor experience this summer.
I wish i could of given them the 1300 dollars we have spent so far to take down their feeder (as a bribe) but not sure that would go over to well.
good luck

Re: Keeping Birds Away from Pool
I have feeders and love love birds. I too have a pool and dont have any problems what so ever with the birds making a mess even by the feeders.
I believe I have read somewhere get a fake owl and hang it, stake it, that should do the job and harmless too.

Try the fake owl. My FIL puts an owl under his boat lifts and that works well. Otherwise, the birds build nests under the canopies and poop all over his boats.
ETA: Move the owl around every few days too.

Re: Keeping Birds Away from Pool
I have done a ton of searches and read some message boards and fake owl's do not work.
I am so sick and tired of these birds...i am at my breaking point, we have actually spent over 1300 dollars, to get rid of them, and i am just sick about this. We also have mockingbirds in the area, and i have heard if they build a nest and we take it down they will attack the person.
Bird feces' is so dangerous and gross, and can cause all sorts of diseases, i should of taken pictures of my backyard, and pool, you literally could not walk, it was dive bombed in crap. The grossest thing i have ever seen, we had to pay someone to clean it up the proper way with masks and gloves because of the disease it carries.

how about the owls that have rotating heads? or maybe put up a feeder to attract them to one area in your yard like a distant corner. HTH.

Re: Keeping Birds Away from Pool
What color is your liner? are they drinking the water or our they taking a bath in your pool????
We have been in our house for 5 years and I've never seen a bird near my pool. Once I heard ducks in my neighbors pool - it looked like a pond, the birds were loving it

The Owls worked for my Dad but they are ugly IMO>
He ended up getting pinwheels and put them on the fence around the pool and no more birds

Re: Keeping Birds Away from Pool
The owl absolutely worked at my house. We used to have so many bird fatalities at my house (hitting our windows.) We purchased a cheap plastic owll, put it on our deck, and not a bird in sight!
