spinoff to major street: how about a THRU STREET?
to follow up with my previous post...
i spoke with the realtor.. she tells me it's thru street not a major street and it's not a busy at all. we were there on earlier Sat afternoon. DS was sleeping in the car so we had to take turn going into the house. from what i saw, only a few cars passed by within the 10 mins i sat there.
another thing: LIPA is at the end of the street. we can't see it if we were in the house or the backyard. we can see the chimneys driving to the house.
we know that it would affect the resale value. it's the same case now, we would not be able to afford this house if it's on a side street.
your thoughts would be greatly appreciated since i'm going crazy trying to decide what to do.

Re: spinoff to major street: how about a THRU STREET?
If this is your forever home resale shouldn't be that much of an issue. Instead I'd focus more on if this is a street you want to live on. Will it be too busy for you? What is it like when people are commuting? Do you want to live near LIPA. If you buy the house I would still take resale and LIPA into consideration and offer lower. Are there any safety reasons not to buy near LIPA?

Re: spinoff to major street: how about a THRU STREET?
the house I grew up on became a cut through street for people commuting to the train station (it's about 1/2 mile away, but people use it to miss ONE light )
the traffic is heavy at morning and afternoon "rush hour" times. but otherwise pretty dead.
BUT people are crazy trying to make a train. a neighbor's Jeep Cherokee was sent up a tree by a car racing to get the train. He reached 60-70 mph in 400 feet of road space! thank goodness it was at 6:30 am

Re: spinoff to major street: how about a THRU STREET?
we are buying a house on a thru street. I find it not a issue except for pulling in and out of the driveway (we must back in) until we can afford a circular driveway. It was the only way we could see to buy a house in our prime location that isn't going to cost a ton of money. The plus side is we are walking distance to everything, we can get on our street and drive to major highways rather quickly and we are not concerned for children's safety since we have none now and if they come into the picture they just can't ride their bike up and down the street (not a big deal in my book since we would have a circular driveway and we are near a park that has bike paths.)
