Anyone ever fel like they have...

...very little in common with your single friends/coworkers? I work with a lot of people that are younger and/or unmarried, and I don't have anything to contribute to the hook up and hangover stories that are the staple in our teacher's lounge. After work, I want to go home and make dinner and spend some time with DH - while they're out at a "happy hour" that starts at 3:30 and ends the next morning. This absolutely was part of my life before DH, but I don't miss it. The thought of drinking myself blind and hitting on boys in a bar sounds more exhausting than fun. They call me "the old married lady."

Am I alone here or do other people feel like this?

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

Most of my coworkers are older than me and have families, but I absolutely feel the same way as you! I used to go to happy hour every single Friday at my old job (years ago) and stay there until 1am... I used to love going out dancing w/ my friends... but now? I mean, I'm only 31 but I would MUCH rather stay home and snuggle on the couch w/ DH than go out to a bar! Don't get me wrong... every once in a while I love to get together with my group of friends (who are all married as well!) and have a few drinks and catch up... but I definitely do not miss the partying lifestyle!

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

For me it is kinda opposite I guess. I am the youngest of my co-workers, and several of them are not married. I was never really into the whole happy hour scene. DH & I have been dating since we were 19 so I guess we kinda went through that together. Some of my co-workers do say things like, "I can't believe your married." or "It sounds so weird to hear you say husband." I have also had the older much older support staff say "Your so young to be married."
I feel kinda out of the loop on things. I also kinda feel like I am resented for being married by some. Anyone else get those vibes?

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

honestly i wish i could go out more often with my single friends. I am tired of hanging around the few married friends i do have because all they do is complain and say how horrible married life is. Dh and I roll our eyes but with hectic schedules as of late we can't go out late nights so we are stuck with the old married couples LoL

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

I actually have a great time with my single friends. I was never much of huge partier or drinker though. But often I find I'd rather be home with my husband and watching amovie or something simple. But going out is always fun.

Once in awhile I invite my friends over for dinner and wine. It's always fun to talk and laugh and drink wine!! LOL. Life changes yes, but you can change with it. Basically turn lemons into lemonade.

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

I think I am in between!
I love to go out with my friends that are 'single' guys and girls alike. I have 2 sets of married friends. 1 set almost NEVER goes out to bars / clubs etc.. The other set, like to go out occassionaly, but have people over a lot.
DH and I go out alone and together at times. We have mostly the same friends. Except for some of the LIW / LIF chicas.

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

I just reread my origional post. DH and I go out with our friends, alone and together. We're not hermits or anything. But we're far from the club/hookup/hangover routine, and that's still a huge part of my single friends' lives. I still see them, and we do other things... it's just made the relationship different, I guess.

Re: Anyone ever fel like they have...

I was JUST having this convo with someone, how I just can't relate to my single, unmarried friends!!

I just can't relate to their stories... lifestyle... it feels like we have been drifting apart. On the flip side, I have been getting A LOT closer with my married or almost married friends! Chat Icon

Except for the baby part, this sounds JUST like me! I was married at 23 too. I constantly was having this one friend in particular tell me that she "gives me credit" for settling down at this age..... and that she won't be getting married till she's in her 30s Chat Icon Well, fast forward to a year later and she admitted she is getting worried because so many people her age are getting married Chat Icon
