Merrick
I've seen some beatiful homes in Merrick...Merrick SD but I really don't know much about the town. It says its only a 40-45min LIRR to Penn Station which is good....but I don't know much about the town.
Anyone live there or can give me some advice or pros/cons?
Thanks!

Re: Merrick
Yes I grew up in Merrick and lived there until I went to college. It is such a great town and has an AMAZING school district. its one of the top school districts. If I could afford it I would definitely buy a house there.

Re: Merrick
We live in Merrick, bought a house here 2 years ago. We love it. Very quiet, great shopping and the homes def hold their value. SD is great, one of the best actually. DS starts kindergarten there in the fall. I can't wait.
It is a little pricey though!
Good Luck! FM me if you want to know more.

Re: Merrick
DH and I lived in an apartment in Merrick (top half of a cape) for two years. It's a great neighborhood. It's close to tons of shopping, highways, beaches, and the express train gets to Penn in exactly 40 minutes. The schools are supposed to be very good. Taxes are high IMO - DH's aunt lives in South Merrick and pays over 13K a year!

Re: Merrick
I grew up in South Merrick and my parents still live there. It's a great town, nice restaurants, great schools, parks. Taxes are very high though. But I think it's a great place to live.
I commuted to the city from there for a while. An express train is 40 minutes, parking is an issue though (or it was when I lived there). They don't require permits so you have to get to the station really early.

Re: Merrick
Grew up in Merrick too. Not a bad commute into the city - express trains are good & I was able to walk to my parents house when I was living at home.
The schools are good & a few of my friends moved back with their families.
Any questions, let me know.

Re: Merrick
I'm in Merrick and I grew up here as well. I love that it's so close to every parkway, and only a 40 minute train ride to the city. I also loved the school district. I hope to one day bable to buy a home here, but the taxes are pretty high. I think my home taxes are about $12,000.

that's what i noticed. merrick and seaford...even if the house is small and not a huge lot, the taxes are above other areas by a lot.
Although i say all of LI taxes are insane.
