HELP... what should the next step be?

So once again, another failed cycle. Dr. is no longer convinced that my luteal phase/progesterone is causing the problem. I had a slightly elevated Inhibin B (ONE TIME) as well as a slightly elevated Estradiol level (ONE TIME) it was 98. Dr. B thinks it might be an egg quality issue. He gave me 3 options:
1- One more month of Femara, HCG shot and booster, timed BD and follow up with progesterone suppositories.

2- Proceed trying on our own... use suppositories every month and just wait for a good egg to just "work". Use supplements (alternative type meds). May take longer (could be year or more) but eventually it should "click".

3- Do IVF or Micro IVF. (We have NO insurance) and DH is layed off right now.

Or should I get a second opinion?
I should add that I've only done Femara, progesterone, HCG one time. I've done progesterone suppositories for 4 months.

WWYD???? HELP!

Re: HELP... what should the next step be?

I won't try to tell you what to do, its such a personal decision, but In my case I have commited to giving the femera and timed bd a few mos (maybe even 4 or 5 as long as dr b says ok)after that, if I am not pregnant I don't know what I'll do. My 1st month w/femera I got 3 perfectly sized follies, but I didn't get pg, just bad luck I guess. This past cycle my follie sizes were all whacked out and I missed O and oddly enough I just O for the 2nd time in the same cycle so I feel I only had 1 good try so far.

We are not covered for IVF either so its almost not even an option, at least not until every other way of trying has been exhausted. I don't know how many times you have tried with femera, but I know for me personally I feel like I have to give it a real chance.

Good luck with your decision...its so hard.

I willl not tell you what to do, it really is such a personal decision you and your DH must mull over and decide how to proceed.

But, I was wondering, just curiously, why IUI wasn't part of the equation..maybe with #1, to increase the odds instead of timed BD?

Good luck!Chat Icon

I honestly don't know. I asked Dr. B about IUI but he said that since DH had like SUPER SPERM that it wouldnt really help.

We do timed bd for the same reason. My issues are with staying pregnant not so much getting pregnant so the odds with IUI are really no better than timed BD.

Progesterone suppositories alone are not going to help if your issue is egg quality. Besides, LP deficit is often treated with medication in the first half of your cycle (e.g., Clomid or Femara) which also improves egg quality. Are your cycles being monitored with sonograms and blood work? Do you have confirmed low progesterone in the LP? I would give the Femara, HCG, progesterone protocol a few more tries with IUI. After that a next step might be injections (Follistim or Gonal F) with HCG and IUI before moving on to IVF. HTH!

I would definitely FM DRMom if I were you. There are tons of books and studies on how to improve egg quality with homeopathic methods. She told me the name of some books, but I can't remember what they were. She's great with this, though...and she's now got twin boys!
