Does anyone's DH have a translocation?

My DH has a reciprocal translocation on the 1 and 16th chromosome. Has anyone had experience with this? We have yet to get pregnant since we started to TTC.

Any good or bad stories would be appreciated. I am not sure how difficult things will be.

Re: Does anyone's DH have a translocation?

My DH doesn't have one, but I do.

Honestly, it is far worse to have the woman have it than the man. I had a lot of trouble getting pregnant. Look at it this way. If I do an IVF cycle, I get maybe, if I'm lucky, 25 eggs, maybe 20 mature and then maybe 15 or so will fertilize. Because of the translocation, there are actually 16 different outcomes as to how it can pan out...and only 2 of them are actually good. So...out of those 15 eggs, if I have 2 good ones, I'm lucky.

Now with your DH...in every, well, hmm...how do I say this w/o being vulgar...alright, I guess I have to be vulgar..."load" there are MILLIONS of sperm. His chances of having a good sperm are great.

If you end up doing IVF, PGD will probably be a good option for you, just to ensure that your embryo is "balanced." But, if you end up doing IUIs, it is less unlikely that a sperm with something "wrong" with it will make it to that egg before a "normal" sperm...so you still have a decent chance with IUI as well.

Let me know if you have any questions. I know all too much about balanced translocations. I'm pg now with a healthy baby!! Just wanted to give you the silver lining!!!

Edited for a stupid spelling error!

Re: Does anyone's DH have a translocation?

So Braverman spent at least 30 minutes on the phone with me!! He is amazingly generous with his time. My DH's DNA sperm fragmentation test came back basically normal/mildy abnormal. He doesn't think is translocation is an issue with not being able to conceive. He thinks my natural killer cells are the issue (my score was 19.8). I also have an elevated CD3. He still feels like my chances are really good so I feel really good about it!!!
