Need idea of towns
DH and I both work in Nassau County (Garden City and Rockville Center) and we are looking to buy a house. We want something with more land and lower taxes and would like to go a little out east but don't want to go too far, especially having to drive on the LIE in the morning!
Does anybody have suggestions for some good towns that aren't too far but have good school districts and more land?

Re: Need idea of towns
try looking in massapequa the school district is very good and depending on your budget you can get a good chunk of property. Also it's part of TO Oyster Bay so the taxes are lower! We live in Massapequa Park and LOOOOVE it!

we live in massapequa also, love it BUT the taxes are not low - at all.
really, the best thing to do to lower taxes would be to as far east as possible. Suffolk taxes are much lower than Nassau. I think our next move will be east, I love Brightwaters

???? we looked at over 200 houses arcross south nassau (merrick to amityille) and these taxes were much lower in comparison to others like wantagh, bellmore and merrick. My parents live in westbury have a smaller lot & smaller house and pay almost 3k more then us so i'm not sure where ur comment comes from??? Maybe if we are looking at areas like bar harbour or biltmore shores but that's a whole other animal!

Re: Need idea of towns
DH works in Baldwin and areas we like are mostly out east, but have the same requirment not too far north of the LIE.
It takes DH about 40-45 min to Baldwin from Farmingville. He doesn't take the LIE all the way he goes via Ocean Parkway which is dead, so he's not stuck in traffic.
The towns I'd reccomend are: Bayshore (West Islip School District) West Islip East Islip Sayville Lake Grove Centereach Holtsville Holbrook
They have new contruction ranches (3 bedroom, 2 bath) going up in lake grove, centereach and holtsville for $329k.
It's east but you'll def. get more land. Taxes can be expensive out east now also but you'll def. get more bang for your buck.

I'm in the same boat as you! This is all helpful information. We own a co-op in West Babylon, but I am expecting, and there is no room for a baby here.

i own a condo in massapequa (no backyard, no front yard) and my taxes are nearly 9k
my mom owns a larger home in seaford with front and backyards of normal sizr and hers are 7.5k
it depends I guess but I dont think massapequa is cheaper than any surrounding town

Re: Need idea of towns
also, keep this in mind when looking at and comparing taxes...
industry and commercials buildings. they will help to bring down taxes. wantagh, seaford, bellmore, merrick have less shopping, commercial and industrial so their taxes will be higher - this goes for most of the south shore (oceanside-amityville).
