Girls with PCOS
So my CD3 BW and sonogram came back consistent with PCO which is a HUGE bummer for me, def. not what I was expecting
Just wondering if gals with PCO here could give me some advice and let me know what treatments your Dr. suggested.
TIA!

Re: Girls with PCOS
Hey! I recently started seeing an RE (March was my first month at the RE), the plan was basically three cycles of clomid (on my second cycle now) each time increasing the dosage from 50- 100- 150 mg and then he said we will jump straight into IVF. Because of my age he said I have a lot of eggs and if I end up doing injectibles I may end of as octomom so that will not be an option for me... if you need to talk im here - been dealing with PCOS since I was 13 (obviously not the TTC part )

Re: Girls with PCOS
I started with Clomid also, but it didn't make me ovulate. I did a bunch of injectible/IUI cycles after that, and while I made follies with the injectibles, I never got pregnant. We moved onto IVF and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant with twins from my first IVF cycle.
Good luck and FM if you have questions.

Re: Girls with PCOS
clomid and metformin worked for me 1 yr after being on clomid (not on it consistently - i had 2 mc in between and a few months break)
PCOS is unfortunatly very common but according to drs easily treatable. (didnt feel that way during the if journey)
Good luck!!!

Re: Girls with PCOS
Hi,
I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago. When we decided to try for a baby, I saw an RE right away since I knew that we'd have trouble. My RE didn't waste any time and tried what I thought were lots of things at once. I was put on metformin, had a HSG which came back normal and when I got my period, I was put on clomid and had ultrasounds and bloodwork every couple of days to check the progress of the follicles, and once they were big enough i did the HCG trigger followed by IUI's on 2 consecutive days. I was scared that we were doing so much right away but it worked and we conceived our first cycle. I had a really good experience with my RE and think he runs a great and supportive practice. His name is Dr. Palter and he's in Syosset (i think he has another office too)

Re: Girls with PCOS
I started with metformin and Clomid, but it didn't make me ovulate and I had bad side effects from it so I only did one round of it.
Then I did one round of injectibles and an IUI (your doc has to know how to control the number of follies you get because with PCOS you could hyperstim easily). It didn't work and I ended up with a bunch of leftover, blood-filled cysts. Not fun.
Doc wouldn't let me continue that way so I took a month off to recover and then jumped straight into IVF. I got pregnant the first round.

Re: Girls with PCOS
I was diagnosed with mild PCOS, my only symtoms are irregular periods and ovaries with alot of eggs.
I did clomid and timed BD for 2 cycles, I got 1-2 eggs on each. Than we did 3 rounds of injectables + IUI and I got 2-4 eggs each time. Nothing worked.
We're now on a break and will need to move onto IVF. We are also dealing with MF- low morphology.

Re: Girls with PCOS
I did 2 cycles of IVF. The first one, my original RE told me I did not need Metformin That cycle was a bust. I switched RE's (within the same practice) - insisted on the Met and that was the cycle that worked. It made a huge difference for me.

Re: Girls with PCOS
I took Metformin for 3 months on its own to see if that would help my cycles regulate. No such luck. My RE started me on 100mg of Clomid, and that very same month, we got pregnant with our DD.
I was devastated when I got the diagnosis, too, so I know what you're going through But don't worry, if you are under the care of a good RE, they will definitely be able to help you manage it!
Best of luck!

Re: Girls with PCOS
I have severe PCOS...I don't ovulate at all on my own and have always had hair/skin issues. I was easily treated for ovulation with Clomid, but because of my age I have issues with egg quality.
If you have weight or insulin issues, your Dr. may prescribe Metformin to control your insulin levels.
Good luck!!

Re: Girls with PCOS
I started on just metformin, and did not start ovulating. My OB referred me to an RE who started me on clomid. My twins were concieved with 150mg clomid + trigger + IUI.
I was also devastated when I got the diagnosis, but learned that PCOS is treatable, and I am so lucky to be a success story!

Re: Girls with PCOS
How exactly did the doctor diagnose you with PCOS? I recently had a sonogram and they said it was "normal." But, I have very irregular cycles (30 to 80 days) all my life, except of course when on BCPs.
Is there also bloodwork involved in making the diagnosis?

Re: Girls with PCOS
I have PCOS as well. My RE (who i just started with a little over a month ago) has me on Metformin now. I haven't had a real period since before my m/c in Feb so i'm also on Provera to bring that on. once the period comes he will start me on Clomid

Yes I had bloowork done on CD3 and my horomoe levels were consistant with PCOS levels.
I've always gotten my period, but my cycles have been crazy.

Re: Girls with PCOS
<-------------- Metformin (4 months) and IUI (1st try)
I had/have VERY irregular cycles. I could go months without a period and I didn't always ovulate. I went to the RE in Sept. '07 and before Clomid they wanted me to try Metformin so see if that would help to regulate my cycles and get me to ovulate. I ended up taking Prometrium every month to get my period along with the Metformin every day and on Dec. 31, 2007 I had a mature follie. I ovulated!! I took the trigger shot on 1/1/08, had my IUI on 1/2/08 and got my BFP 10 days later. DD was born in September!!
Don't be discouraged, there are so many treatment options out there. Seeing an RE was the BEST thing I ever did!! Lots of luck and I hope that you get a BFP soon!!
