We put down 5% and our mortgage is approx. $2400 including taxes, homeowners, PMI and escrow.

Ugh...reading all this is freaking me out! We just got married last summer and are paying $1400 in RENT. Gonna be interesting taking that first step into looking for a house. I know NOTHING about home searching or mortgages or anything!

we put down 4% and our monthly payment is going to be 1175 with escrow and taxes etc. But also not in NY In South Carolina!!!
and really my husband and I pay $20.00 every month for a house that is our!! We rent it out!!

for our co-op we put 20% down and pay about $600 a month for the mortgage. our maintenance is approx $550 a month as well.
we bought 2 years ago and have an awesome interest rate

There are so many things to take into consideration if you're looking to compare. Interest rate is a HUGE factor. We bought our first house (townhouse) in 2002. We put down 5% - interest rate was 7.25% and paid $2019. After a year we refinanced and got a 4.75% interest rate and our payment dropped to $1400.
In our new house we pay $2500 with taxes, we put down something like 25%.

We bought in 2000 as well...$160,000 for the house, taxes approx $7,000. We put down 20%. Monthly Mortgage $1471.
