Want to start a family, but...

Hello, this is my first post on this board... I apologize if it doesn't belong here...

My DH and I are married almost 7 months. We want to TTC soon and start our family because we're "not as young as we used to be" let's put it lol... and we're worried putting it off longer will make it more difficult to have a family in the future...

The issue is we have alot on our plate right now... We currently rent and are saving $ for a home... The job market is unstable and either of us may be out of work at any given moment... And I will start a master's career change teaching program in the fall...

With so much going on, are we crazy to TTC right now? Am I insane to go to grad school and be pregnant/have a newborn at the same time? The prospects are really scaring me when I picture them!

Anyone in a similar situation have any advice? It would be much appreciated!

Sorry this is so lengthy!

It's not silly to worry about those kind of things...i'm sure that if having a baby in the near future is on the top of your list then you WILL be able to find a way to make everything work. Life is complicated and i would guess that there is never going to be a perfect time to TTC...just follow your heart!

There are many women who work, go to school, and get pregnant/raise a child. It will be more hectic and maybe even harder, so you really have to know that going into it and if you're ok with it, that's all that matters. It CAN be done - do YOU want to do it that way? That's the question.

I think you should just weigh how much you'd like to have a baby in the very near future vs. the possibility of waiting a year or two for you to finish and then start trying.

The other thing is, it may take you a while to get pregnant so it might be a moot point (although the stress of not getting pregnant may be a lot too). The point is, there are so many variables. But if you want a baby, then don't not try because of "what if's" (what if we lose our job, for example).

Good luck!

Me too! Follow your heart. I wish I had started sooner but had let all the practicalities of life get in the way. Hindsight is always 20/20 right? You will know when the time is right Chat Icon

There will always be something that make TTC impractical. If you and your DH truly want to start trying for a baby, then I say go for it.

You're absolutely not crazy. Most of us worry about the same things. But IMO there's never a "perfect" time. And you'll find a way to make it work. Lots of people do. I went to grad school with a girl that had her first, got married, and had #2 - all within a two-year program! My MIL was in nursing school when my DH and SIL (18 months apart) were babies. My mom finished her masters in education while taking care of four children, ages 6-16. If this is what you want, go for it!

Re: Want to start a family, but...

your post is totally normal and SOOOO many ladies feel that way at times!

nothing wrong with worrying about the future and your current situation and how a baby will change things.

only you and DH know when you are gonna be 100% ready--but in reality there is never going to be a "right time" to have a baby--i think we will always have something on the back burner making us worry!
