Question

This is my first month trying and I am not sure when you can find out if you were successful, Do I wait to see if I miss my AF, or is there any way to find out sooner. I know this is probably a stupid question.

you can buy a test that will show up to 5 days before your missed period, but they are not entirely accurate. the closer you are to your period's due date, the more accurate the test. I think that for my first pregnancy I did research and the Clear Blue non digital test detects the smallest amount of the pregnancy hormone and therefore that one will come up positive the earliest.

However, I want to warn against testing early. First, a lot of girls experience "chemical" pregnancies in which they test positive but have a very early miscarriage. If they had waited to test they may not have even known they were pregnant an avoided a lot of painful emotions. Second, the tests are most accurate once you've missed your period so you may get a false negative when you are actually pregnant, and feel very sad when there is no need.

Personally, I always test before my period is due. With my first pregnancy I tested positive 9 DPO so I never experienced any of the above, but from reading this site i think that either of the above scenarios can be bad.
