even when you spend Alot of $$$ on food shopping- when you get home, there's nothing to make for dinner???

this happens to us All the time. i spent so much at BJs tonight, yet when i got home, we didnt really have anything easy to make, so we ended up just getting McDonalds.

whats up with that? Chat Icon

I feel this way all the time! Chat Icon I feel like I spend so much money and there isn't anything in the fridge. At times, DH will comment, "Why is there nothing in the fridge when we just went food shopping?" I don't understand this phenomenon.

Re: Do you find that

ok, i just looked over what i bought tonight and realized i got:

9 pounds of cheese
48 breakfast bars
a case of snack packs (chocolate pudding)
a bucket of pretzel rods
a case of assorted chips (cheetos, etc)

...and to think, i thought i was being healthy by skipping on the Peanut M&Ms Chat Icon

yeah, this is probably why i leave all of the 'domestic stuff' to DH Chat Icon Chat Icon

unless you wanted snacks baked with cheese, there really wasn't much food in your food shopping. Next time pick up a prepared chicken while your there. No cooking involved (which I know you like Chat Icon ) and they are pretty tasty

This used to happen to us ALL the time. Then I started picking out 6 meals for the week (we always eat out one night), and I only bought what I needed for those meals, then some snacks and miraculously, our bill was a lot lower and we had food to eatChat Icon

Re: Do you find that

Lately I have the opposite problem. I've only really been buying meat and veggies, so there is never anything to snack on! I guess that's good in a way!

Re: Do you find that

My other problem with shopping at Costco is that I buy myself little treats - a book, DVD, whatever, things that are not available at grocery stores. These bump up my bill some too and I definitely can't eat them!

Yeah we do that do, otherwise, we just end up with a lot of cheese.

We just pick 4 meals though & get take out/go out/ eat with family Fri-Sun.

Although for last night's meal I was out of ideas & told DH to buy chicken cutlets & spinach & by Thursday I'd figure something out, but I really just figured it out as I started cooking! It was tasty too!

Re: Do you find that

I felt like this too when we first moved to our new home and that month we spent $800 on groceriesChat Icon Chat Icon. We realized we could not keep spending like that so I figured out what we would eat weekly and bought that plus some snack food. We pick one thing for junk food a week/two weeks and once it is gone that is it. We now spend $400 on groceries and eating out per month and have enough food and a stocked pantry.

My weekly menu is

Monday - chicken
Tuesday - beef
Wednesday - pasta/vegitarian
Thursday - left overs
Friday - pizza night/take out night
Satuday - chicken or left overs from take out
Sunday - fish or chicken if we did not have chicken on Saturday

We usually go grocery shopping on Sundays so that is why we have fish that day.

This happens to us too. But, we really don't look at the prices and buy things that don't really stretch.

Seriously - we are the condiment king and queen. That and we always have an abundance of sausages. DH always manages to sneak them on the list - I don't eat them so don't realize till I'm home that we have too many sausages.Chat Icon
