I have a question about statistics
Maybe someone can help me undertand this. A few days ago a friend and I were discussing the success rates of IUI's. My RE said a couple has about a 20% chance of conceiving each month....yet when I read about the success rates of IUI's it says myabe 15% chance each month of success. How is it that normal BD'ing has a higher rate than IUI.....since with an IUI the sperm is going "further up" into that area. Know what I mean?

Re: I have a question about statistics
I guess they take the infertility into account, that must somehow knock us down a few points!

Re: I have a question about statistics
Are you talking about unmedicated IUIs? IUIs with Clomid? And with what diganosis?
The stats are different for IUIs depending on the medications used and your diganosis.
Also, the stats your friend was mentioned are for "normal" (hate that word) couples... now with IF your chances are completely different.
Remember, 85% of couples get pregnant within their first year... now we're beyond those statistics and in a whole new ballgame.

Re: I have a question about statistics
I thought a couple has like a 6% change BD with no help. Though I feel that numbers change with the age of the woman.

Re: I have a question about statistics
For a couple with no fertility issues, there is only a 20%-30% chance of pregnancy any given month. For those with fertility issues that number drops (depending on the issues) to around 5-10%. An IUI only helps slightly to try and "even the playing field" with those w/o fertility issues. This is why it is only a starting point which for many leads to IVF which increases your changes up to about 50%.
