Does anyoen do a Mother's Day celebration with their class?
It a tradition on my school that pre k and Kindergarten puts together something nice from the kids to their Moms.
Anyone do this? If so, any suggestions?
As a gift, I was thinking of framing a poem that they wrote about their Mom.
Should they sing them a song?? I don't know what to do. I don't want them to just sit around.
Any ideas would help!
Thanks

Re: Does anyoen do a Mother's Day celebration with their class?
I'm not a teacher but having been one of the moms who had to miss the Mother's Day celebration that my child's daycare & preschool does, I'm completely opposed to it.
To create an event - which is supposed to take place on a Sunday - for working parents to miss is infuriating.
I realize how truly selfish this sounds but from the Parenting board, I can assure you that I'm not the only mom that feels this way.
Putting a craft for the kids to give to their mom, teach them a song to sing on Mother's Day - absolutely fine. It's very, very appreciated & cherished for decades after you helped my child put a handprint as stems & drew flowers around the fingers.

What I was going to put together is during the school day.
To be honest, it is somethig I really don't want to do. I think I should ackowledge it in class and make a craft, but the whole party thing---not my idea.
Please elaborate on why you oppose it.

We did a mother's day tea where we invited teh mom's in, decorated the table is if it were a "tea party" (got cups, etc. in party city) and had the kids perform 2 songs...I am Your Child by Barry Manilow and another one (can't remember the name).

We do a Mother's Day Tea at my school. The children sing "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion along with the CD and we serve refreshments. We also have them make a placemat with handprints, a poem, and a photo of the child with their mother. If a mom cannot come, we encourage other special members of the family to attend (grandmothers, aunts, godmothers, etc.)

That sounds cute. How long does it last? Dumb question, but did thwe kids eat too?
There is a reason why I ask this.
Thanks

It's like 45 min. to an hour at the end of the day. We tell the kids to make sure they serve their guests first, but they do have cookies.

Re: Does anyoen do a Mother's Day celebration with their class?
I have a student who lost her mom not too long ago, and I know I have a few other kids who've also lost their moms, so I hate to do anything that might make them feel sad or left out. My kids are in sixth grade.

No...to sensitive of a day for some kids every once in a while. We do a craft and I tell them it is for a special woman intheir life, whether it's mom, g-ma or whomever. Same premise with father's day.

How sad....I don't have that issue in my class for Mother's Day. With father's day I do.
Kids have so many tough things they face these days.
