I had a floppy eared bunny was I was little...they are so cute. I have seen them in pet stores. Did you give the pet store in RVC on Sunrise Hwy. a call? I forgot their name. I have seen them there, especially now that it's getting closer to easter.
ETA: It's Parrots of the World.

Def start with Petfinders. So many rabbits are dumped in shelters.

Yes, even worse too many rabbits are let loose in the streets of LI after the novelty wears off, and people get tired of caring for them. Most are dumped without a way to fend for themselves and get killed by raccoons, starve to death, die of diseases, etc. http://www.longislandrabbitrescue.org/inthenews.htm
Please keep in mind, they can reproduce very quickly if not neutered and they can't fend for themselves outside if they get loose. Please factor this in before getting one.

Re: where can we get a floppy-eared bunny?
Just wanted to add my plea that you adopt an abandoned bunny. There's a group on Yahoo - NYCbuns - that rescues rabbits in the area. They might have some floppy-eared ones.
I'm not sure it's common knowledge that domestic rabbits cannot be left in the park or in the woods and survive. Every year, around the end of May, DH ends up rescuing a domestic rabbit that's been abandoned - usually on the side of the road near some woods.
Rabbits make great pets but they can be a lot of work. Also, they are not great pets for young children. They injure easily if they aren't picked up correctly.

Re: where can we get a floppy-eared bunny?
This group has been a HUGE help to us with our rescued rabbits! We've turned to them for help when the bunnies were sick and when we had too many to care for comfortably. They are awesome!
It's just so frustrating to me when DH calls to say he's found another one. I know it's going to be difficult to find the rabbit a home and in the meantime, it's an additional mouth to feed, cage to clean etc. And I get really resentful that someone's whim (NOT implying that the OP is getting one on a whim) has turned into our responsibility.
We have 3 fantastic pet rabbits courtesy of someone's negligence so that's good for us. Unfortunately, way more than that have passed through our doors. we've been fortunate to be able to find most of them homes and we have a fantastic vet who helps us out in a pinch. But we've had a few come to us too sick/injured to save.
If you're planning on getting a chick or a bunny for the ol' Easter basket - go with stuffed or chocolate please!

Re: where can we get a floppy-eared bunny?
I replied on my x-post and wanted to reply here as well.
This is going to be an informed decision between myself and my husband about getting a pet. Not an Easter surprise for our non-existent kids. I had three pet rabbits while I was growing up.
It's purely coincidence that we're looking around Easter time.
I appreciate the information. I didn't realize petfinder also placed rabbits... Thank you.
