I'm pathetic!
I'm so embarrased to even write this post.
I basically just want to get into shape. I'm one of those people that is thin but can't do a minute of exercise without feeling like I'm dead!
I wanted to try that "couch to 5k" thing.. and even that was too much!
DH is super athletic so I feel even more pathetic!
I literally have only exercised like 1x in my life - (tried yoga) and ended up with a bulging disk! Yes, that's how pathetic I am.
We are doing fertility treatments so I have been putting on some extra pounds and just feel really unhappy with my body. I want to be in good shape if and when we do get pregnant and be able to do light exercise throught my pregnancy!
HELP!
We did the first part of the couch to 5k program (literally only the first day).. we alternated jogging and walking for 1 mile, then walked about half a mile. For probably like 5 days after that, my legs were SO sore! I felt so pathetic.
Can anyone give me so tips, tricks, advice, ideas, a plan.. anything??
Thanks!

Re: I'm pathetic!
You basically have to build up your endurance. It's not going to happen overnight.....so you being sore after what you did is perfectly normal.
Keep it up at the pace you can go.......and you will be a pro in no time.
Remember...Your entire body is currently being trained/conditioned....that includes your legs, heart, lungs, etc.
Try and stretch after you are done. Your muscles are already warmed up and your stretches will help you to be a little less sore for next time.
And.......drink a ton of water after also.

Re: I'm pathetic!
Your not pathetic, your just a beginner.
Take it slow, there's no rush! Maybe try just walking for 30 min.s a few times a week and maybe try a low impact exercie video first. Work up to taking a beginners exercise class in the gym. I have been exercising since college and I still get sore, so that never really goes away and it's a sign that it's working!
good luck!

Re: I'm pathetic!
You're not pathetic. I'm always getting injured too.
I suggest starting with just walking for the first few weeks, it's easier on your back & legs. Then pick up the pace and walk faster. Then add some jogging into your walk. By summer, you'll have built up your endurance really well & you'll feel stronger. But start slow. You can mix up your cardio too, use the elliptical or bike so you don't get bored.
Also consider doing some work with free weights or body resistance exercises like push ups to help strengthen your muscles so you don't get injured so easily.
All the best!

You're not pathetic. Your body is just not used to it. Your body just needs time to get there. You're expecting too much from it and it needs time.
The c25k is great b/c you WILL get there, it just takes time and committment. Keep up with it and by next week, you'll feel less strained.
Your lungs, muscles, heart, tendons and bones need TIME to acclimate. Just give it some time and DON'T think your pathetic. You're just human!

You are not pathetic. You are just a beginner. Maybe you can try walking first and then building your way up. I still get sore and have been working out for years. Take it slow at first and in time you will be able to run a 5k without a problem.

Re: I'm pathetic!
ITA with all of the above (except for the you being pathetic part )
Start by walking. If you want to do the couch to 5k as a goal that's great! Just because it is a training schedule doesn't mean you have to follow it perfectly. You can ALWAYS repeat any day or any week for that matter before building up and moving on.
It's not always going to feel wonderful in the beginning but you WILL get used to it. Just take it slow and steady

Re: I'm pathetic!
You aren't pathetic. I was exactly like you. I have an average body size and am not overweight. I started by just walking a half hour to an hour a day. I then joined a gym and I really like doing Pilates on the reformer. I think you have to find something you like to do, that's what worked for me. I also like running on the treadmill. One of these days I'll start running outside.

Re: I'm pathetic!
don't let the soreness think you are not in shape! the best runners get sore. It's just your muscles building up to get you to the next level.
If running is too much, walk...you burn about the same calories walking/running (it just takes a bit longer to walk it)...walking will help you stay active.
Is there a sport that you really enjoy? I like to golf and walking the course is great exercise.

Re: I'm pathetic!
I am very similar to you.
And, each time I try to get into a routine, I realize how out of shape I am, that it's SO hard to stick with it. It's not fun panting to keep up after 10 mins on the treadmill, when you are surrounded my gym-buff marathon runners!
So, I feel your pain I am hoping to get back to the gym this week. Hopefully the warmer weather will be the kick in the butt I need!
