Male IF Urologist

Can anyone recommend a good urologist dealing with male IF? My DH has already seen Dr. Mellinger and he said there was nothing he could do to help, that my DH's IF is unexplained. His counts are really bad (1 million, 20% motility, 1% morphology), but he's only had one good SA. His first SA had no sperm but Dr thinks it was a lab error (wasn't done in their office).

We weren't really happy with Mellinger b/c I don't think he tested for everything, and he really didn't explain much. So I would like to get a second opinion with a Dr. that is very thorough and explains everything.

I am not sure if you are seeing an RE....but Dr. Sheykin (sp?) is at LIVF...he also has a few other offices...one is in Stonybrook I believe.

He was nice....he had my husband go for a special SA that only USB does. He wanted him to go for one more test that checked to see if he had a blockage...we decided not to have it done yet.....we were basically told that IVF was our only option.....

But he was very nice and answered all of our questions......

The larger RE practices all usually have urologists on staff. You may want to consult a few of them and see what they have to say. The one you used does not ring a bell...is he in a private practice??

I am sorry you were unhappy with Dr Mellinger....That is who DH went to & we were very happy with him & his entire office. I do know that DH had similar motility & morphology numbers as your DH. Once all the testin was complete (2 SA's, 1 scrotal ultrasound & bloodwork), Dr Mellinger informed us that we would have to move onto an RE since there was nothing he could do besides put DH on Clomid for low testosterone..

I can't offer up any other options but I am curious to see if anyone has any other ones. We also saw Dr. Mellinger who told us the same thing, My Dh had two SA's done (both at RE office) and all he told us after looking at the results and taking blood was unexplained MF (he also did one sono, no blockages).

I have to be honest when I tell you that I really disliked the whole experience with him. He told us also that our only option was IVF. Right now we are just waiting it out and trying some natural methods and hardcare dieting in hope that his counts will increase, I plan on having to go for another SA in a coupld of months to see if there is any other improvement before (and if) we resort to IVF.
