New to all of this

I will be calling to make an appointment tomorrow with an RE. My story: I have a 2 1/2 yr old I had a mc at 5 wks in October and a mc at 5 wks this past weekend. I don't know much of anything about infertility or RE's. If you can give me any suggestions or must ask questions i'd be very greatful.

TIA!

I think thats where they will start...but i'm not sure. Of course my self diagnosis is that it is my progesterone, but what do I know. I really hope thats what it is b/c I think that seems easy enough to fix right?

yup, if it's progesterone, then you can take shots or suppositories- it's an easy fix. Chat Icon Did your current dr. ever check your progesterone levels during your 2ww?

You should also ask about clotting issues. My best friend had that and several m/c later it was finally diagnosed/treated and she now has 2!! Chat Icon

No he never did. The 2nd mc just happened and his response was to refer me to an RE. I was a little surprised. I thought he would do some tests himself first. Is it weird that he didn't?

I started out at an RE before we got married, so I'm not really sure if it's weird that he didn't check your progesterone.
It just raises a red flag to me because low progesterone is such a common cause of early miscarriage. Chat Icon Knowing that you had one already, he could've been a little more proactive and at least checked it, in case that is the only issue, KWIM? Chat Icon
If he's sending you to an RE, I would go- it can't hurt. They'll go over your history with you and do some testing, and see if they find any issues. Chat Icon It seems your issue isn't getting pregnant, it's staying pregnant, which could be as simple as progesterone or it could be a clotting issue as PP said, in which case both of them are pretty easy fixes w/ medication.Chat Icon GL!!!

Some OB's do not have any experience or education in infertility. They will defer you to an RE so that you are under better care. Personally, I think this is a much better approach then those OB's who try to address the problem themselves without really knowing a whole lot....
The RE will do a full blood panel on you, hopefully do some immune testing and also check you progesterone levels after ovulation.
Please do not be afraid to question the RE if he does NOT do any of the above. In dealing with IF, I have learned that you truly have to be your own advocate and an aggressive advocate at that.

Thnak you so much ladies. I made my appointment with Dr Rosenfeld on the 23rd, but will be calling on the 16th (and every other day after that) when he returns from vacation to see if there are any cancelations so I can go sooner.

Sorry for your losses. When you see a RE, there are many different kinds of tests they run initially. Given your story, you are probably not dealing with MF infertility so the doc will focus on you. Blood tests, HSG are often initial lines of testing. You can als request a repeat miscarriage panel of blood tests and genetic testing. Most likely they will start off conservatively with you since you already have a child and have gotten PG twice recently. Best of luck!
