anyone else on the TTC board also looking at houses?
we SO badly want to be in a house by the time we have a child, we have been looking for a while...
today we went out and looked at a bunch of open houses, but it seemed that all the houses we liked already had accepted offers on them! SO STRESSFUL!!
there have been many houses that were "okay" or "almost" the house...but i dont think i want to settle just yet, i mean...it's not like we are PG yet. although, i feel like if we get PG soon, i will be quick to just settle for something...just so that we have a place.
just wondering if anyone else is going through this, we live with our family now, so it's nice that we are able to save...but i would hate to be still living here by the time we have a child. i just want a place of our own!

We are - kind of.
We're still not sure where we want to live for good... so we randomly look at different places here in San Diego - and look online at places in NY.
If we do stay here, we'll probably get a condo. Condo living is the way to go here it seems! It's the easiest way to stay close to the beach... plus with the weather here, it's never like you'd be stuck inside for too long.
It's definitely hard! We've already looked at tons of places, but we really don't want to settle and we're in no rush. We rent right now and it's working for us

DH and I are beginning to look in a month. We really want to be in house before a baby also which is why we are going to start ttc in August. We figured there is a really good shot we will be in a house by then and if not it would be shortly after, so August sounded like a great starting point for us to ttc

DH and I are going to closing in 2 weeks. It took us a few months and many houses to find "the ONE". We were like Goldilocks- this one is too small, this one is too big... It is process and it is VERY annoying. But when you find the right one you will know and it all works out. Don't rush or feel pressured.

We really want to be in a house before a baby but we aren't sure we'll be able to land the house of our dreams before then.
So, if we can't, we will look into buying a townhouse and living there for a few years. Then we can move into the house of our dreams in time for baby #2

It's funny because I said to DH the only thing worse than the 2WW is having a bid out there on a house during it! We were going back and forth all last week on it and I'd O'd so we were I'm hoping we get good news soon!

That's sorta our plan. We closed on a condo on 2/13. Hope to move on in 5 years.

Re: anyone else on the TTC board also looking at houses?
Definitely know how you feel. We had that situation in NY, but we are lucky because DH bought a villa in Boca Raton before we met, and with the job market and economy the way it is, we decided (after failed attempts to live with family and friends and to rent) to make a move. Our problem is employment situations (DH is in computers/networking, I am a lawyer and no firm will give me the time of day until I take the Bar).
Are you looking out of state or on LI? I ask because on LI, you can do well also with foreclosures. DH's cousin just bought in Rockland Cty for a reasonable price (listed with a realtor), and a lot of people are doing well as first time buyers if you have good credit, a good down payment and find the right place. I would also look into short sales (where someone is going to be foreclosed, but the bank will take less, so you save) and the list of properties in foreclosure can be found online or at a county office. You can also call a real estate attorney if you are interested in looking at foreclosures-many can guide you. Don't get scared or give up hope-time and the economy are on your side! Good luck!
