Re: Off DISNEY RESORTS....Need Help!
The Resort is closer to Disney but, the Villages are newer/more modern.
We own at the Villages but, have stayed at the Resort (we went on a timeshare trip down there). The Resort was ok but, the Villages were substantially nicer IMO.
ETA - We bought our timeshare at the Villages.

Re: Off DISNEY RESORTS....Need Help!
We stayed at the Vistana Villages in November. It was the best, most relaxing vacation I've had in a long time. The pool is zero entry by the kiddie side - perfect for Noah. It only goes to 1 1/2 feet deep there, so he will be able to wade in and probably sit wothout the water going over his head. There are also activities by the pool on certain days, aimed towards toddlers.
The villas are beautiful. It nice to have a kitchen and washer/dryer at your finger tips.
I highly reccommend staying here.

Re: Off DISNEY RESORTS....Need Help!
I have to vote for Orange Lake. We are owners there and went yearly when I was a kids growing up. Then we started going to Mexico when I was a teenager, and now that we have DS, DH and I have been going to Orange Lake yearly for the past 3 years. We absolutely love it there! At first Orangle Lake didn't have availability for our dates and we were going to stay at the Sheraton Vistana, but we were so glad when we went to book that we got our home resort. Orange Lake is not even 5 minutes out of Disney. Their is a Piblix supermarket right outside the resort gates, though we usually drive a little further to WalMart since it's much cheaper. Orangle Lake has so much to offer that you could easily spend the whole week at the resort. They have a few restaurants and we've eaten at them all. The pizza place is not very good, I wouldn't even bother with it. The sports bar in the East Viallge is pretty decent for bar type food and sandwiches. We LOVE the restuarant at River Island. We usually eat there atleast 4 times in a week between lunch and dinner and have never had bad food. Their flatbread pizza is way better then the pizza place. The three main pool areas all have fast food options for lunch. The three main pool areas are in the West Village, North Village and River Island. WV pool area is the original pool, though it's been updated. It's not the most fun option for kids, but it's large and usually not too crowded. Plus thet have Bingo in the afternoons. It's also near the lake where you can do some water activities and DS likes to play in the sand there. The NV pool is on the quieter side, but a great option for kids. There's a large kiddie pool with fountains. One of those sprinkler in the foor areas. And the big pool has a zero entry area. There is also a small slide you can go on with DC. My DS loved that! RI is the biggest pool area with a really nice lazy river and two zero entry parts on either end. They also have the sprinkler floor there too. The units are more than sufficient. We are owners in the WV which always gets the worst reviews, but we've never had an unrenovated unit. They are updated with nice jacuzzi tubs. We own a two bedroom, and love having DS in his own room. I would sta away from the studio units because they're in the main clybhouse and I've never heard anything but complaints about them. Hope that helps!
