If you have a sister...

does she also have fertility problems. I have an older sister (36) not married, who really doesn't know I am having fertility issues. She knows I had a m/c and when my OB first ran tests she thought I might have PCOS, I told my sister that she may want to get checked out. Well my issues are far greater than PCOS, and I haven't told my sister yet and DH is insistant that I tell her right away incase she has the same issues and wants to have children in the future. Its so hard for me to talk about with my family since we aren't that kind of family to share things, everything was "hush, hush" growing up. Honestly, no one in my family except my sister knows I had 2 m/c and NO one knows about my infertiliy. Its so weird because I can talk to some of my friends about it, but I just can't with my family.

Yes I have a sister, 4 years older and she has absolutely NO fertility issues. Neither did my mom. But it's probably worth mentioning to your sister, just in case...

The only blood relataive I know of that had some fertility issues was an aunt of my Dad's side.

Re: If you have a sister...

i would tell my sister - but thats me... we are all close. One sister has 4 children and she got pregnant the month she decided to have a baby. my other sister has mild case of pcos - nowhere near my problems. My mother as well never had any if issues or mc either. Neither sister ever had a mc (thankfully) and ive had 2. Chat Icon

I can only speak for myself bc like i said i am close with them.

Re: If you have a sister...

My sister is 6 years younger than me, no fertility issues. She got pregnant immediately after coming off BCP.

As far as I know, I'm the first in my family to deal with IF issues. But our issues are both with my DH and myself.

Re: If you have a sister...

My sister is 8 years younger than me..her first pregnancy was textbook perfect. After i found out I had MTHFR, i begged her to go to get checked just in case she got pregnant again.

Turns out she is MTHFR,same as me and I am glad she went. We are not close, but she is pregnant again and at least I know she is covered.

Re: If you have a sister...

I do not have a sister, but I have a cousin on my father's side who has similar issues. Interestingly, both of us and our grandmother all have retroverted uteruses.

(What is the plural of uterus? uteri? uteruses? Chat Icon)

Re: If you have a sister...

Its probably worth having the conversation. I have 2 sisters and I do consider us close, but for some reason I haven't been able to share this with them. I just told one about it - she had no probs and got PG within 3 months of trying, but she was understanding. I think particularly b/c this is you giving her a heads up, it would be a good thing to do - and you can control the conversation, if you don't feel like sharing everything, dont - just share what you want to. Good luck whatever you decide.

Re: If you have a sister...

I have a younger sister, she's 23...she knows all about our IF issues and after I was diag. with PCOS she went to the gyn to get checked out. So far so good. I pray she doesn't have any issues. My mom had a lot of trouble conceiving both of us but back then they didn't know what they know now.

Re: If you have a sister...

I have two older sisters and neither of them had IF issues. They were a lot younger when they had their kids though. As far as I know I am the only one in my family (and DH's family) that has IF issues.

Re: If you have a sister...

I have three. One had two texbook planned pg's while one had an "oops" baby at 19.

My youngest sister has severe PCOS. She was told years ago that in order to get PG, she should seek out an RE when the time came.

ETA: My mom has no issues what so ever.

Re: If you have a sister...

I have an identical twin sister who went through IUI because her insurance did not cover IVF. I had IVF because my insurance covered it. When I started having fertility issues, my RE told me I had a unicornia uterus...I told her and she said, "that's what I had." Neither one of us knew before that. it turned out that she only had 1 ovary(born that way) and I only have 1 as well (surgically removed due to a cyst at 23). She only has 1 kidney(born that way). Somehow, I have 2. She gave birth 6 weeks 6 days premature, and I gave birth 6 weeks 1 days premature.

Hang in there. Talk to your sister. Growing up, my sister and I never really talked about important stuff either, but now we do. I'm sure she will be very supportive of you. Chat Icon

Re: If you have a sister...

I have 3 but only one has kids. She's on he second pregnancy in 2 years. She has no issues getting prego- second was not planned.

You should talk to her she may be able to comfort you as well as be very appreciative for you telling her.
