We always keep Larry David on a leash, as do 99% of the dog owners in our neighborhood. There are 2 dogs I can think of that are not on leashes. One is fine, she doesn't ever move past the front door of the building; the other is a horror and it REALLY bothers me and everyone else I know that this dog is not on a leash. I have to be honest, I think it's irresponsible not to keep your dog on a leash unless it's in a backyard or a fenced in area specifically for running and playing (like a dog run). It's dangerous for the dog (if they run into the street) and uncomfortable for people who don't know the dog that have to pass it.

Re: If you have a dog...

They are ALWAYS on a leash. there are soooooooooo many dogs that arent and run up to our dogs and if that dog gets bit its NOT my problem!!!! they should be on a leash for their own safety!

Re: If you have a dog...

My dog must be leashed 100% of the time. The only time she's off a leash is at the dog parkl because it's fenced in- and it's always a hassle to get her back on the leash, I always have to bribe her with a piece of cheese.

Re: If you have a dog...

I don't use a leash. Sometimes she likes to test her limits, but I just have to call her name sternly and she runs back to me.

ETS: I should also point out that I only walk her on my block. If we go far distances, she gets leashed.

Re: If you have a dog...

I just wanted to add something i just thought of...my neighbor does NOT keep his 2 big dogs on leashes. Chat Icon He just lets them out the front door and they run up and down the sidewalk and in the street. Recently I was walking Casey and they saw her and came charging across the street at us - poor Casey was terrified because we got all tangled up...and then they even snarled at her!! The guy came and got them but didnt even apologize to me!!!! Chat Icon

i know that it is completely wrong and irresponsible but i never walk my dog on the leash. i have tried MANY times but he is too big and i am unable to control him.

flame away

One question..if you cant control him on a leash, how can you control him off the leash? This is a tragedy waiting to happen for the dog or some poor unassuming soul. The woman next door to my aunt couldnt control her pit bull on the leash either, he was too strong, he attacked and killed another dog on the block. Good thing it wasnt a child. Chat Icon

Re: If you have a dog...

Leash, unless he is coming out of our car, in our driveway, and going the ten feet to the front door

Re: If you have a dog...

I have 2 Italian Greyhounds, and as well trained as they are, their natural instinct is to run. No dog should EVER be off a leash. It bugs me to death to see people walking their dog and the dog is 20 feet in front of them. It is not only for the safety of your pet, it is for the safety of others too. My dogs would never attack anyone, but they are too tiny, and I need to protect them.

Would you walk your toddler down the street without holding his/her hand? I know, not the same to some, but my dogs are my children, and I love them like children, and if anything were to happen to them, I would never be able to forgive myself.

A leash, ALWAYS. No matter how big/small/obedient your pup is.

Another thing that pisses me off is outdoor cats, and people who let their dog out to go to the bathroom, on the street, not even just in their yard.

I cant even get started on this topic, I have no tolerance for ignorance when it comes to animals.

Re: If you have a dog...

I have a greyhound, so I always keep him on a leash. Otherwise he would probably take off down the street.

I am sorry... but you should ALWAYS leash your dog.

It drives me batty to see people walking their dogs with no leash. There are leash laws out there for a reason.

\

I agree....in our neighborhood, many peole just let them out....we will never let our out without one in the front.....he is a great lil guy but still a dog and can therefore be unpredictable....not worht the chance in our book!

The last thing I want is to be held responsible for hitting a dog with my car while I am driving home on my block.

Or if I have a dog on a leash... some other dog runs up and attacks my dog.

Re: If you have a dog...

We have an enclosed yard. But the few times we walk with her to the beach (in the off season) we'll take her off the leash when we get to the beach, as long as there are not other dogs around - she'll come to us as soon as we call her.
