Does the Ped travel to any hospital to check out your baby?

Does the Ped travel to any hospital to check out your baby?
Or are Peds affiliated w/ a certain hospital like other MDs?? -
I'm delivering @ NShore Manhassett, but I would like to choose a Ped that's closer to home (I'm in Massapequa) .......
Will this work ?

I was told if the peds you chose isnt associated with the hospital that you deliver at, then they will be checked by another peds who is. Then if they give the okay for baby to be discharged you will then just bring your baby to the peds you wanted from then on after that.

If the pediatrician you choose is not affiliated with the hospital in which you are delivering then he won't be able to check your baby at the hospital. They'll just have the on-staff pediatrician check him. Then you bring the baby to your pediatrician when you get home with the baby...diff. pediatricians want to see them within different amounts of days after you come home. Some want to see them the day after you get home, some just w/in a week,etc.

also wanted to add. I did lamaze at the hospital i delieverd dd at, and at the class they gave me a list of peds associated with their hospital and it was LONG. Could you get a list from your hospital.. yours may be on it.

Right - my SIL had to get the baby to the Ped within 4 days of being home from the hospital...

pediatricians are usually only affiliated with certain hospitals. if the ped. is not affiliated with the hopsital that you deliver at it is no big deal. the hospitalist will see the baby and then after discharge you will see the pediatrician. the office i work at we usually see newborns who are bf within 3-4 days of discharge and up to a week for formula fed babies.. HTH
