Teas...

Ok, so lately, I have been craving tea.... I know we are not supposed to have black tea because it brings on contractions, but what about green tea & chai tea? Other than the caffeine factor, what about the herbs?

Re: Teas...

I drink black tea all the time.. really my entire pregnancy. I just drink decaf.

I was told no green tea or herbal teas.

Re: Teas...

I have all kinds of teas daily. I have a cup of decaf black tea every morning---I've never been warned about black tea bringing on contractions or any other tea for that matter.Chat Icon I also have chai, green and white tea. I try to stick with either decaf or a really good brand that tells you if the amount of caffeine is low (Mighty Leaf or Harney & Sons).

Re: Teas...

Black (decaf) teas are absolutely fine. However, there are many herbal teas you shouldn't drink. I think I have a list, let me check.

Re: Teas...

Black tea is fine, just drink it decaf.

Green tea you should try and stay away from, especially in the beginning of your pregnancy as it blocks the absorption of folic acid. Folic acid is super important to the developing fetus/baby. Herbal teas are iffy depending on which herb. I haven't taken the time to do much research on which ones are ok or not so I've just stayed away from all of them. The only tea I've been drinking while pregnant is plain old Lipton Decaf (which is a black tea).
