Kind of blue today, kind of long...
So I went for my 24 week appt today and discussed delivery options with the doc. I told him that I'd really like to try for a VBAC. He said that he is not ruling out the possibility, but that there is a 1 in 200 chance of something "catastrophic" happening. When I had my DD, my water broke but true labor never really started. After 23 hours, I had lost most of my fluid and DD went into distress and they had to take her by c-section. Neither of my docs were in town the weekend I gave birth (1 was at a conference and the other had a death in the family). So, the covering doctor didn't feel it was necessary to do anything to kick-start my labor. I kind of feel like if he had given me cervidil and/or pitocin that perhaps I could have delivered DD. Nobody will ever know for sure, but I feel like it could have turned out differently.
I told DH what happened at the doc today and he said absolutely not -- we are not risking the VBAC. He thinks it is just too big of a risk. I don't think it is that high of a risk to completely rule out the possiblility. My doc said that if at 38-39 weeks, the baby has dropped and my cervix is thinning and I am starting to dilate that we can consider it, but DH says no.
I know this may sound stupid to alot of you but labor, and childbirth is just something that I wanted to experience, as a woman. Now I just feel like that has been taken from me and I'm just really sad about it. I've been crying on and off all night over this.

I can understand why you would be upset---sounds like you have your heart set on experiencing child birth. No one can tell you how to feel. I also understand DH's perspective--- is it worth taking the risk? I would choose to go the safest route possible but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be upset about it.

I totally agree with this.
