Ultrascreen results
Just got a call from the dr, my ultrascreen results are in. The sonogram came back good, but the blood results say i have a 1 in 68 chance of having a down syndrome baby. Dr suggested me getting an amnio. Any words of advice??? I'm freaking out

Re: Ultrascreen results
As someone who became a statistic because the doctors broke my water during an amnio - I can only offer this advice.
Please make sure they do whatever other testing they can to determine if your baby has Downs. You have no idea how off the blood results can be (I wish I knew).
I will never tell someone NOT to have an amnio done because testing is important, just please make sure they do every other test that is available before enduring a procedure that can possibly put the baby at risk.
Feel free to FM me if you have any questions

Re: Ultrascreen results
It seems like these tests are more often wrong than right. We decided against any invasive OR screening tests. If it was me I would not do the amnio but if you do make sure you use a Dr that has lots of experience

I completely agree, we did not have the amnio, because we went through all the testing that showed us there was nothing wrong. I personally didn't want to introduce that 'chance' if everything could be confirmed/debunked during normal testing.

Re: Ultrascreen results
I had gotten a 1:63 chance for Downs after my ultrascreen. I opted for the amnio for peace of mind. It was a rough wait, but it came back negative. Remember, it's still a very small percentage. FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Ultrascreen results
thank you girls so much for your responses, In my heart i feel everything is ok. The nuchal fold came back good, and i have no family history of downs (not sure if that matters), Its just hard that now theres that sense of something could be wrong, KWIM?

Re: Ultrascreen results
I had a CVS done at 13 weeks which is considered a "dangerous" test and it gave me the peace of mind I needed to enjoy my pregnancy. Amnio is generally safe if done by a very experienced doctor. If you are very distressed about your test results then I say go for the amnio. JMO!

Re: Ultrascreen results
So sorry you have this choice to make. It is a personal choice so I couldn't say what you should or shouldn't do.
I personally did not do the scan. No matter what the results, I would not terminate so I saw no need to put potentially uneccessary worry on myself. Also, no matter the results of the scan, I was not going to do an amnio. And I did have three very close to personal stories of couples who were told they were going to have a DS baby and all three have healthy children.
1 in 63 may sound like a small range but it's still a small chance. You have 62 to 1 of having a perfectly healthy baby. We all stand some ratio of risk of having a multitude of things not so right. We have faith and we grow the healthiest baby we can. JMO
and to you in your decision. You and DH know what's right for you.
