Dr appt was disappointing

Just took down my periods for last 6 cycles and estimated how long my cycles are and about when she thinks I'll O and told me to BD often during that period for 3 cycles and if nothing come back. I just feel like wasn't anything we weren't already doing on our own Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon oh well I know I should be patient. We're very lucky that we have DD, it's just that I wanted a sibling for her and I wanted them to be close enough in age to be close to each other and now I worry with each month that goes by that if we get a chance to have another they'll be far apart by the time this happens and it will create distance b/w them (neurotic I know, but that's me).

I don't mean to be mean but you mentioned in your other post that you had been trying for 6 months. Was that with or without the OPKs?

You really need 6 good months of perfectly timed BD around when you ovulate (based on OPKs, CBEFM, or temping). If you do that and then still are not pregnant... that would be when I'd think to see help (if you are over 35).

I've already sought help hence the post but that's why I'm disappointed in Dr. visit suggesting more of this let's hope we're guessing correctly when ovulation is BS. I've bought OPKs since clearly guessing isn't working but I expected more from a professional such as suggesting OPKs or temping.

I was thinking more along the lines of an RE than an ob/gyn.

Are you over 35?

How long have you been using OPKs?

I'm sorry about your appt... I know exactly how that feels...

Dr should have at the very very least taken some basic blood work - it took my 2 dr's to get past that hump and the most recent one I saw took blood work at that visit and discovered my hormone issues. We waited a bit before starting with a RE (had our 1st appt this week) - but I was on meds for my migraines which I needed to get out of my body first...

I am considering trying to see someone else. I actually wasn't thrilled with the practice when I had my DD but I stayed b/c it wasn't too bad and I was nervous being a first time mom and didn't want to switch during a pregnancy so maybe now's the time to consider it b4 we do conceive again.

Re: Dr appt was disappointing

Depending on the ob/gyn they will be more or less helpful when it comes to this stuff, but remember, they are in the business of delivering babies and monitoring pregnancies, not in actual conception. If you are really concerned, or really want a jumpstart, the place to go is an RE, who specializes in looking at your cycles and helping with conception.

What I would do, if I were you, is do what your ob/gyn recommends, but take it a step further for the next 3 months - use OPK's and chart with fertility friend. That way, if it doesn't happen in the next 3 months, then you can go see your ob/gyn, or a specialist, with all the information you already have on your cycles. Chat Icon

Re: Dr appt was disappointing

I would definitely try another dr. When I went for my annual visit last year and mentioned that we'd be TTC in the next year he told me right away to get the CBEFM. I am older (37) so he didn't want me to waste any time and said he had seen excellent results with the CBEFM. I'm surprised your dr. gave you that response. I totally understand where you're coming from with the age difference thing. That's been on my mind too with TTC #2. Chat Icon

I'm sorry you are disappointed.

But I dont think you should put so much stress on having them close in age so that they will get along.
Being close in age won't guarantee that. Everything will work out.

I'm 7 years apart from my sister and we are very close Chat Icon
