Disability help- update

I work part-time in a real estate office. I've looked at my pay stubs & they take out money every week for disability. I asked my manager today if he knows if I can collect disability. He said that he has no idea & told me to call & find out & let him know.

So my question is does anyone know where I can call to find out if I'm eligible? Does childbirth count towards disability because my manager said it may not if I'm only out 6 weeks.

Any help would be so appreciated because right now no matter how little I'd get it would be helpful.

Update (sorta): Unfortunately, we don't even have an HR department here. I did some more research online & I think what's being taken out is for NYS disability which I appear to be eliglible for. I think I found the form to fill out as well. Thanks for your help everyone!

Re: Disability help

Do you have an HR person you can call?

Where I work, disability pay/how much etc... is dependent on my level.

Re: Disability help

I know when I asked my HR they told me I had to use all of my vacation days and then go into short term disability. I haven't talked to them since then, so I didn't get more info on how to go about finding out eligibility. Sorry, guess that wasn't much help.

No there is no HR person. I really thought my manager should know this stuff.

Re: Disability help

My company pays me the difference between what I collect in disability and my normal salary.

There is a disability form that I have to fill out. I have to hand it into my HR department but you could probably hand it in directly to the government. Sorry, I have no idea where or how to do that.

Re: Disability help

on my pay stub i have disability taken out but that is considered my short supplemental disability in addition to what my employer offers. I would def. call your HR department if there is one. Short term disability i know from my expierence can be used during pregnancy.

Re: Disability help- update

having a baby is automatica guarantee for 6 weeks sort term disability, 8 weeks for a c-section. if your company doesn't offer specific disability insurance, it goes through nys. isorry i don't know the proces for applying, but i do know unless its changed recently full time employee would get about 170 a week. its not a lot.

I'm not actually an agent I'm the secretary so I'm not independent. Thank you though!
