Around 26 weeks or so you have to take a glucose test to test you for Gestational Diabetes. You start with a 1 hr test, if you fail, you must take the 3 hr test.
The one hour involves drinking a glucose drink and then taking your blood an hour after you drink it. The 3 hr they take your blood when you arrive, then 1 hr after you drink, 2 hrs, and 3 hrs.

im so clueless about some of the tests
also - i just scheduled my ultrascreen when im 12 weeks to check for downsyndrome (feb 3)
what exactly do they do? and why did my doc send me to the hospital and said that they dont do these at his office?  :

The ultrascreen is a combination of a sonogram where they measure the back of the baby's neck, and a blood test. I did my ultrascreen at the hospital as well, as well as my Level II and my upcoming growth sono. The important sonos they always send me to the hospital. It just depends on the practice.

They draw blood- fasting....then they give you a high sugar drink- right there...then you sit there 3 hours and they re-draw. Bring a good book...They use it as a predictor of pregnancy related diabetes...how well you metabolize....
