Male Infertility Only
Hi everyone, I have been lurking on these boards for some time now, and have finally decided to post.
Are any of you dealing with strictly male IF issues? We started with an RE last month and have both been through a bunch of tests and blood work. Everything with me came back normal, however my DH has very low sperm count (4.1 million), low motility (only 11%) and poor mophology. He just had a second SA done, but the RE told us that our best option wil be to do IVF with ICSI. Has anyone else dealt with this? Tried IUI first?
Thanks!

Re: Male Infertility Only
My RE considers us to have "slight" MF - and otherwise unexplained.
Things didn't work out as planned, but we intended on doing 2-3 IUIs first (with injectables) and then moving onto IVF with ICSI.
Unfortunately, our IVF with ICSI didn't work. We did have a great fertilization rate (12/19) and all 12 made it to day 5. We transferred 2, and still have the other 10 frozen.

Re: Male Infertility Only
We're dealing w/MF. (can't recall Dh's exact numbers)
We tried 4 IUIs before the NP suggested IVF. We met with the urologist at the office and said ICSI and AH would be the way to go.
We retrieved 15 eggs, 11 fertilized. 9 were excellent quality, transferred 2 and froze 7.
Unfortunately, the transfer didn't work, so now it's on to a FET.
Good luck to you!

Re: Male Infertility Only
We are dealing with MF issues. Had 5 iui's in 2007, the last resulted in my DS.
We're trying again, and this time around the count was excellent. DH's biggest issues were his BP meds which were affecting his sperm count/motility. He's since changed his meds.

Re: Male Infertility Only
Our issue was only male factor. DH had low motility, morphology and although the counts on the SA were ok, when we tried IUI they were terrible (less then 1 million). We did IVF w/ICSI and luckily were successful on our first try. MF is said to be the easiest type to infertility as doing ICSI bypasses all the sperm issues. Good luck

Re: Male Infertility Only
Thanks everyone. I guess we will see what the second SA says andd go from there, I just feel like if we start with IVI with ICSI we are starting at the last resort.

Re: Male Infertility Only
We dealt with strictly MF...DH had low morphology (1%) & motility of 38%...Counts were fine
I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with twins after our first IVF with ICSI....The RE told us it was the "best" option to bypass the male factor
good luck to you

Re: Male Infertility Only
We are MF only DH has bilateral varicoceles and his counts were really bad as well as morphology. We opted for IVF/ICSI and got pregnant on our first IVF. I decided to go against IUI because of his counts. Good Luck

Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of options in the infertility world. With IUI you are only changing things on your end, not DH's, so if the counts aren't great and the quality isn't good it really won't help much. Although it feels like the last resort (and I know what you mean, I felt the same way), it's a really great technology that gives you a great chance at getting pregnant. Definately wait for that next SA and go from there.

Re: Male Infertility Only
We dealt with MF only also. DH's counts were low, but morph and motility were okay. We did 3 IUI's, last one resulting in an ectopic pregnancy. We did several IUI's after that with no success.
We moved onto IVF w/ICSI and got pregnant on our first try with our beautiful daughter.
My insurance covered all of my IF treatments. If my insurance didn't cover anything, then we probably would have went straight to IVF.
Good luck

Re: Male Infertility Only
My DH's numbers were really low also when we did our first cycle in 2005. We weren't even given an option of IUI. It was IVF with ICSI or nothing. It was even suggested to us to have a donor sperm back up. That's how bad DH's SA was. We opted to use DH's sperm and were successful with our first IVF cycle!
Now we are trying for #2 and problems have developed with me so it's a different story now.

Re: Male Infertility Only
We have slight MF (his numbers vary) and I have only one tube. We tried IUIs and they didn't work. We're now doing IVF with ICSI to bypass his issues.
