breast pump

I plan on breastfeeding but dont want myself or anyone to spend a whole lot of money on a pump...what is a good one that is reasonably priced? I

I even thought about renting one just in case it is not easy for me to do.

Re: breast pump

EVeryone raves about the medela pump in style. I am waiting to buy it until after I am released from the hospital. It is not cheap, in the mid $200's but I heard it is great!

Re: breast pump

Medela PIS...I love mine and use it daily...I bought it after I had BF for a few weeks since I wanted to be sure that it was working for us...I bought it in Target because I had giftcards

The medela pump in style ones are good - but not cheap. I would not rush out to buy one unless you are sure BFing is working out and you know you want to continue. I know some people who bought one then their milk never came in or decided that BFing wasn't the right method for them. Then you are stuck with an expensive piece of equipment. I saved some gift cards from my shower/when DD was born and used those to purchase the pump about 2 weeks after DD came home when I knew I wanted to continue. (I was too uncomfortable to every BF in public so I pumped for when we went out of the house and BF at home.)

Re: breast pump

I put the Medela one on my registry... if someone should buy it, I will not open it until I know that I will stick with BF'ing.

If BF'ing doesnt work out- I'll return it unopened and use the $ for other baby things.

If you are returning to work the Medela PIS is totally worth it. If you just want a pump to use now and then the Avent Isis is great.

ETA: Lactation consultants often sell Medelas for much cheaper than Babies R Us. I can't remember the name of the website I got mine from, but it was a LC's website and I saved over $100.

Re: breast pump

According to Baby Bargains they rated the Medela and ameda purely yours very highly. Ameda is online for $150 at breastpumpsdirect.com. The only thing is Medela is BPA free while ameda is not. Supposedly, the Lansinoh double electric is the repackaged version of the ameda and at target for $147.

Read the reviews at target and BRU. They're pretty helpful!

Re: breast pump

It depends on what you want it for...

Do you plan to BF and only give a bottle once in a very blue moon???

Then you need an occasional use pump.... It can be single and either electric or manual.

Anything more than that (like if you plan to give a few bottles/day or plan to give expressed milk vs. nursing) you will need a double electric pump.

I rec'd medela... they have both kinds of pumps..
